Drew Anderson

Name: Andrew Anderson

Position: Pitcher
Bats: R
Throws: R
DOB: March 22, 1994
Height: 6′ 3″
Weight: 185
Acquired: Drafted by the Phillies in the 21st round of the 2012 MLB Draft

Career Synopsis:In high school Anderson showed a fastball that ticked just over 90 mph but for the most part was off of scouting radars going into the 2012 draft.

Fastball: Anderson’s fastball sat more 89-91 to start the year, but by the end of 2013 he was sitting more 93-94.  Anderson has good feel for location with the fastball and can set low minors hitters up with it.  There is some room in the frame for projection and the fastball may eventually sit plus velocity.  55/60

Curveball: Anderson’s curveball will flash above average potential.  He is still learning to sequence it with the fastball, but it has the potential to give Anderson a second above average offering.  45/55

Changeup: The changeup is a work in progress and Anderson is still working to get a good feel for the pitch.  Given his fastball reliance the development of changeup good really increase the profile. 35/50

Profile: Anderson’s current profile is more pitchability than raw stuff.  If the fastball sits plus and there is a big improvement in the secondary pitches he could be a #3 starter, but it is much more likely to be a #4 starter profile or worst.  Anderson is still pretty raw and has some room for projection, but he doesn’t flash the upside his numbers might suggest.  It is a profile very similar to current Phillies RHP Jonathan Pettibone.
