Sunday notes column

Hi. I wanted to write a notes column, because I haven’t done one of these in a while, and because I felt like I really had to get back to writing more regularly. The last month or so has been a bit turbulent, and because of that, I haven’t been able to devote as much time to the site as I wished I could Things are beginning to get back to normal, so I hope to be able to put in a better shift, but I wanted to thank Gregg and everyone else who regularly contributes here for picking up the slack as I’ve veered off course. I’m not going to do any fancy formatting for this post, I’m just going to give you some thoughts as we wind down the minor league season.

Weekly Notes Column, May 23rd

Welcome to this week’s edition of the weekly notes column. Before digging into this week’s notes, I wanted to kind of throw a warning out there. Over the next few weeks, I may begin to play around with different themes/layouts for the site. I’ve actually brightened the color red in the header so it stands out a bit more, but like anything you become overly familiar with, sometimes you want something new. I’ve never been fully in love with the wordpress templates available, I’ve tried to make them work because I don’t have the skills or abilities to build and maintain a website with regular HTML. That said, I did explore the possibility of having a custom wordpress form built, but the price tag is prohibitive. Because of that, I may just tinker with other themes and layouts. Don’t worry, the content will remain the same, and if I do go with a bigger change and move stuff around, I’ll create a road map so you can find everything. So the takeaway from that story; if you click on the page in the next few weeks and it looks really weird, don’t tweak out, just give me some time and I’ll do my best. Thanks. Now, onto the notes…

Weekly Notes Column, May 16th.

The weekly notes column returns after a 2 week break, and I’m actually going to change things up a bit in terms of the way I attack this weekly writeup. I’m going to try and make the piece a bit more uniform every week, adding distinct sections that make it easy for me to write this in chunks and then publish it on Sunday night/Monday morning every week. All of the formatting should make sense as we progress through. So let’s just get right to it.

Weekly Notes Column; April 25th/26th

Welcome to the latest edition of my weekly notes column. Inside you’ll find some of my thoughts on the past week’s games, some general thoughts on the season so far, some draft talk, and whatever else comes to mind. Before I dig in to this week’s column, I wanted to point out a few things on the site. First, I’ve just added a “Technology Guide” to the top left of the site navigation, right under the rules/faq. This is what I referenced last week with regard to RSS feeds and other cool ways to follow the Phillies minor league teams. I put it together in one big post and linked it, so it should be easy to find in the future if you wanted to look something up. Second, I’ve begun to do some cleanup on the left side of the page under the “Prospect Features” subsection, making sure our legit prospects have tags, and moving some of the guys who really aren’t prospects anymore down to their respective categories underneath. If you see that someone is missing and you think they should have a category for themselves, make a note of it on the Reader Entries page. Thanks. You may have also noticed that I’ve re-arranged the pages at the top of the site, and added a page called “Live Events”. This page is currently just a placeholder, but I hope to have more info on this later. I also referenced the “Stats Shop” page last week. This is going to be my place to post cool statistics stuff when I have it, including Game Scores, estimated pitch count information, and then probably full gamelogs as well. For now it just contains the Game Scores stuff, but it will be expanded as the season progresses. I’m continually looking for ways to improve the interface here, to add new features, and to make the site better. If you have suggestions, please email me at sweptaway at gmail dot com. Now, let’s get to the notes for the week…

Weekly Notes Column, April 18th/19th

Welcome to this week’s edition of the weekly notes column. As I mentioned last week, I’m going to use this as my space to kind of tie a bow on the week that was, and more specifically, share my thoughts on what I’ve noticed and what I’m thinking about with regard to the Phillies minor league system. Its also going to give me a chance to talk about a few things I’m working on for the site, and lots of other stuff. So check below for this week’s column.

Sunday/Monday notes column, 1st edition

My goal is for this post to become a recurring weekly feature, where I kind of work on a longer piece and post it sometime Sunday night/Monday morning, kind of just going over some things I’ve noticed, some trends I might see developing, and things to watch for as we progress through another minor league season. As the draft gets closer, I might throw some draft tidbits in there, and just basically a bunch of other stuff. I know that my output here has been sporadic, sometimes its a whole lot, sometimes its not much, and I want this to serve as my weekly reminder to make time for the site and stay involved. Gregg and everyone else do a fantastic job here, and I’m eternally grateful, but just as a parent sometimes gets jealousy of the bond with the nanny/caretaker, I sometimes feel like I need to be a responsible parent to the baby I’ve created here. So lets get started…
