General Discussion – Week of 3-31-2014 – Absolutely Nothing Interesting Happening Today Edition

Boy, we’re really going to struggle to find stuff to talk about this week, I think.

Discuss. I mean, if you can think of anything. Good luck with that.

General Discussion – Week of 3-24-2014 – MRSAdition

I imagine the main thought when the players were told Freddy Galvis had MRSA was “Umm…MRSA? Really? Nasty.”

No one said it would be profound. It’s still Spring Training for me, too, you know. If I’m phoning it in like this in Mid-May, you guys let me know.

General Discussion – Week of 3-17-2014 – Green Jersey Edition

Yes, it’s that time of year, again. Last year they used Ryan O’Sullivan on St. Pat’s, and I was kinda hoping just for the sake of the brothers saying they pitched together in a big league-ish game that they’d use Sean and Ryan today, but alas, Sean is actually battling for a roster spot, (I guess), so he went on his regular turn yesterday. Maybe we’ll still see Ryan again today, but it’s less cool.

Also wondering what other MiLB guys we may get a look at here the last couple weeks. We’ve seen Hector Neris a couple times the last few years, wouldn’t be surprised to see someone similar, like a reliever-only A+/AA level kind of guy – maybe Neifi Ogando or Colt Murray or someone like that – hard throwers that could move up the system if they get results. General Discussion – Week of 3-10-2014 – Man’s Hip Edition

It’s pronounced “Man’s Hip,” right? Like that band Jefferson Star’s Hip. No?

General Discussion – Week of 3-3-2014 – First Cut Edition

Last year we had a nice little discussion about who would be the first person let go from camp. Let’s do that again – FYI, I discount Joe Savery as he was technically gone prior to camp opening. He might have been my guess if he was still around, and he was clearly Amaro’s pick.

You can pick guys sent back to minor league camp,  or guys who you think will be DFAed/Released/whatever method you’d like to use. I personally think the first guy back to MiLB camp will be Zach Collier and the first DFA/cut will be Jeremy Horst. Collier needs the reps he’ll get in MiLB camp and he is not making the big club ahead of guys like Gwynn and Thomas. Horst is the least useful pitcher on the 40-man and easiest to see sneaking through waivers, IMO.

General Discussion – Week of 2-17-2014 – A Farewell To Arm Edition

A Farewell To Arm – Joe Savery.

Joe: I’m not brave any more Billy. I’m all broken. They’ve broken me.

Billy: That’s ok, Joe. We want you at first base.

Joe: But I’ve only played pitc…oh wait…yeah, ok, sounds fun.

General Discussion – Week of 2-10-2014 – Pitchers and Catchers Edition

Anyone think The Phils will add another piece to their rotation in the next few days? I wonder if they’d still make a push for Ubaldo Jimenez, but I kind of doubt it.

Would you give up the 47th pick in the coming draft for the 30-32 year old seasons of Ubaldo Jimenez with an AAV of $12-13M, as Fox Sports Ohio reported last week was his likely price range? I think I would, but it wouldn’t be an easy decision. Also, whether Jimenez wants to pitch in Philly is another story altogether.

General Discussion – Week of 2-3-2014

A minor league second baseman just quarterbacked his team to a Super Bowl. The Eagles should seriously consider picking up Cesar Hernandez or Andrew Pullin.

General Discussion – Week of 1-27-2014

Hey, it’s Wednesday. I forgot to post this all week so far. Blame my employer for wanting me to, you know, work for the hours they pay me to work. Pfft.
