The comment count is pretty high in the previous discussion, so I’ve opened this new one for the weekend series against the Athletics.  The A’s are playing better than last season when they took 2 of 3 from the Phillies at CBP going into the All-Star break including an 18-3 stomping in game three.

The Phillies took 2 of 3 from the Nationals.  The game three loss was a little disappointing.  It was nice to see the Phillies power break out in the first game of the Diamondbacks’ series.  Nice catch by Rojas in the ninth inning. Continue reading Phillies Discussion 5/5/2025 →

The Phillies ended a 5-game losing streak with two wins over the Chicago Cubs this past weekend.  Luzardo and Nola pitched very well in both victories.  They are off today and start a 6-game homestand with 3-game series against Washington and Arizona.  The Diamondbacks’ series is important because they could be a team with whom the Phillies will be contesting a wild card berth.  The Phillies trail the Mets by four games and are 2.5 games ahead of last place Atlanta and Miami.   Continue reading Phillies Discussion 4/28/2025 →

The Phillies completed a home stand with a 4-3 record against the Giants and Marlins that frankly should have been better.  They travel to New York to face the Mets in a three-game series that will complete a stretch of 16 games in 16 days in which they currently have a 6-7 record.  Continue reading Phillies Discussion 4/21/2025 →

The Phillies returned from their road trip with a disappointing 2-4 record.  They had a chance to bury the Braves and blew it.  They had a chance to salvage the trip against the Cardinals and were shut out twice.

The Phillies’ difficulty with starting pitchers continues.  Through 15 games, opponents’ starters have compiled a line of 80.0 IP, 73 hits, 22 runs, 20 earned runs, 25 walks, 74 Ks, 3 HR, and a 2.25 ERA.  If you overlook their success against Glasnow and Sale, opposing starters have a 1.13 ERA against the Phillies.
