Threshers Recap – 5/31/2019

Clearwater (28-26) began an important series against first place Dunedin and forgot their bats as they lost 3-1.

Ethan Evanko (2-1, 2.01) pitched effectively but gave up 2 runs (1 ER) in six innings.  He gave up 8 hits and walked three while striking out a career high seven Blue Jays.  Continue reading Threshers Recap – 5/31/2019

Threshers Recap – 5/30/2019

At the Complex today, the Phillies played a couple of low-scoring games against the Blue Jays.  They won 2-1 on Ashburn Field in 2 hours and ten minutes.  They took a 2-0 lead into the ninth on Roberts Field, but settled for a tie.

Threshers Recap – 5/28/2019

I made it to the Complex today.  Jan Hernandez took at bats in an XST game.  He should be ready to return to Lehigh soon.  Might get some rehab at bats with Clearwater first.

Kyle Young, who had TJ surgery back on May 8th (I think), has been in Clearwater for a week as he begins his long rehab.  Learned that Ben Brown had surgery last week.

Threshers Recap – 5/26/2019

Clearwater (26-24) completed their 4-game sweep off the Jupiter Hammerheads with a shutout of the Jupiter Hammerheads.  They were paced by Colton Eastman, Zach Warren, and Grant Dyer who combined to 2-hit the weaker sharks. 

The win put the Threshers two games over .500 and pulled them within 3.5 games of first place.  After a day off on Monday, they  complete their road trip with a 3-game set against tha Charlotte Stone Crabs before returning home for an important 3-game set with first-place Dunedin.   Continue reading Threshers Recap – 5/26/2019

Threshers Recap – 5/25/2019

All four affiliates won last night, as did the Phillies.  Yay!

Clearwater (25-24) beat Jupiter, 4-2. 

Damon Jones (2-3, 1.58) pitched 5.2 innings giving up an unearned run on 5 hits and 2 walks.  He struck out ten.  Luis Ramirez (3.46) stranded 2 inherited runners pitching 2.1 scoreless innings.  Austin Ross (4.26) gave up a run while notching his second save. Threshers Recap – 5/24/2019

The first of the 2019 All Star squads has been announced.  The Clearwater Threshers placed five members of their team on the Florida State League North team.  Left-handed starter Damon Jones and left-handed reliever Jonathan Hennigan were named to the All Star pitching staff.  Shortstop Nick Maton, center fielder Simon Muzziotti, and outfielder Matt Vierling were also named to the squad. Threshers Recap – 5/23/2019

Clearwater (23-24) beat Jupiter, 4-1.  Th Threshers are in third place 4.5 games out of first.

Julian Garcia (3-3, 3.35) rebounded from a horrible last outing and tossed seven, one-run innings.  He gave up 4 hits, walked none, and struck out five.  He threw 89 pitches, 63 for strikes (70.8%).  Tyler Carr pitched two, one-hit innings for his first save. Threshers Recap – 5/22/2019

Clearwater (22-24) handed a victory to Daytona, 8-7 in ten innings. 

Andrew Brown (6.89) pitched five innings and gave up 3 runs on 7 hits and a walk.  He struck out four.  Grant Dyer (0.81) pitched two scoreless innings.  Then, Zach Warren (5.50) and Luis Cedeno (3.86) took over.  Warren walked the first batter on 5 pitches.  He walked the next batter on 6 pitches after starting off 0-2 and throwing 2 wild pitches during the at bat.  He got two strike outs but wild pitched the runner on first into scoring position.  Continue reading Threshers Recap – 5/22/2019

Threshers Recap – 5/21/2019

Clearwater (22-23) beat Daytona, 2-1. 

The Threshers are three games into an eleven-game road trip.  This week, the AAC tournament is being held at Spectrum Field.  The Threshers go to South Florida after they wrap up their four-game Daytona series Wednesday.  They return home on May 31st. Continue reading Threshers Recap – 5/21/2019
