Andrew Painter is in Arizona.  He is scheduled to pitch two innings this Saturday at 3:30 pm MST, 5:30 EST. (bold text above).

Aaron Barrett, the Phillies Minor League Rehab Pitching coordinator travelled to Arizona with Painter to monitor his progress.

The following is from an earlier post.
The Phillies contingent includes:
  1. Bryan Rincon, SS (Phillies No. 10 prospect per MLB)
  2. Gabriel Rincones Jr. (No. 11)
  3. Wen-Hui Pan, RHP (No. 20)
  4. Griff McGarry, RHP (No. 21)
  5. Christian McGowan, RHP (No. 22)
  6. Otto Kemp, 3B/2B (No. 28)
  7. Jordan Dissin, C
  8. Tristan Garnett, LHP
  9. Wesley Moore, LHP

Greg Brodzinski, the Jersey Shore Blue Claws manager, will attend as a coach.  Meaghan Flaherty, Athletic Trainer for Reading, will attend in the same role.

Jim Callis, Jonathan Mayo, and Sam Dykstra published an extensive article with the names of all participants.  None of our guys in their Top 100 were named.

Their writeup about a couple of our guys is:

“A premium defender the Phillies took in the 14th round of the 2022 Draft, Rincon had shaken off a rough April in a move to High-A this year and was playing well in May when a hamstring injury kept him out until late August. His glove is well ahead of his bat, so facing the pitching in the AFL should be a good challenge for him. After a very solid showing in the AFL last year (.889 OPS), Rincones seemed poised for a jump to the upper levels of the system, but a torn thumb ligament limited him to just 68 total games, so he’s back to hit the reset button.”

      1. Honestly the hat falling off is a bad sign. It means that he is yanking his head. It is actually a drill that pitchers do to keep the hat on. It means the head is still.

    1. Painter topped out at 100 mph in his two innings, allowing three hits, two runs, a home run and one walk, striking out two on 29 pitches. “Obviously, the results weren’t exactly what I wanted,” said Painter, the Phillies’ first-round pick in 2021. “But the arm’s healthy and that was the biggest takeaway. Everything felt like it was coming out good. I felt like my old self, so that’s all I can really take away from that.”

  1. jim bunning’s hat flew off a lot. i assumed he just didnt wear it properly on his head. was that part of painters delivery before the injury? hopefully painter will be a hall of famer like bunning.

    1. I don’t remember observing that prior to his injury when he was at Reading (3x). As I recall, he was very much under control and had a nice delivery and finish.

  2. old ruff. Same thing happen to Romus. In our softball league, he stopped wearing his wig

And his hat kept falling off.

    1. Amazing kid…from 17-years old until he was 21-years old he battled two knee ligament issues, torn labrum, blood clot in shoulder and then 2020 pandemic close down….he kept going thru it all.

He lost a lot of development time along the way.

  3. Otto looking good, he keeps pushing the bat chances increase on moving off bohm?

Not really convinced Bohm will ever be fully actualized, here or anywhere else. Guy has amazing bat to ball skills but it’s like his brain just says to itself “I can hit that” so the body reacts and swings without realization that sure you can but it’s going to be shit contact. i know he put up some numbers and he can hit the ball but he should be killing the ball with his skillset and skills.. idk just not sold on keeping Bohm around.. and looking into what/who they sent to afl

Didn’t realize Tristian was such a hoss.. big fella.. will be watching/keeping tabs on the numbers

    1. He is one guy that the Phillies may look at in spring training.. 27-year old tall lefty Tristan Garnett.

SSS in AFL…2 innings pitched, one hit, two Ks… so far so good,

MLB had him listed as a sleeper for the Phillies.

” Six-foot-six left-handers are always worth keeping an eye on, right? Garnett signed as a free agent at age 23 in July 2021 and he spent the bulk of his time on the mound in 2024 with Double-A Reading, missing bats (11.9 K/9) but also struggling with the strike zone for the first time (6.2 BB/9). He also missed nearly two months of the season due to injury, but he does have a fastball that now touches 95-96 mph and a changeup that is an out pitch, along with a slider.”

  4. Wonder who is in there radar for left field? According to couple of inside baseball. Soto wants N.Y. Mets owner will blow away any Yankee offer. Soto might take less to play with Judge. So Phillies have to most likely trade for one.

    1. Originally, Painter was not chosen to go to the AFL. With him being added, does anyone know if they Phillies had to subtract someone? Wen Hui Pan has not pitched and wondering if he was dropped from the roster to make room for Painter.

    1. Romus your handle is Romus 1915. You born I. 15? I want to figure out how to get a stud right hand bat for left field. Without giving up painter or Miller

      1. That would be one 32-year old Teoscar Hernandez. Which after the WS he becomes available…….but at probably $25M AAV for 3 or 4 years. DMAR really liked this guy a few years ago…he has power.

          1. Yes…it would have been nice looking back…..but he was 22-years old, at Corpus, and hitting jus .219. with some power and whiffing a bit…I suppose Klentak and his crew just preferred the pitchers like Vinnie Velo, Appel, Eshelman and Oberholzter.

            1. This was one of Klentak’s worst moments as a GM. These 5-1 trades (remember the Schilling trade? or how about that Cole Hamels) almost never work out and, boy, was this trade a total dud.

    1. He’s gone every 6 days so far, so should be tomorrow. The starter is not currently listed on the website, but that’s been the plan so far.

  5. Painter and Kemp with more outstanding play.

Painter three innings pitched, 2 hits, no walks and three Ks.

Kemp with HR number 5, tied fir third, and now with an OPS of 1.2.
