Lehigh Valley lost; Mick Abel got rocked early. The hitters were competitive making up some of the lost ground and rallying in the ninth. But the bullpen had put the game out of reach.
The Phillies activated Edmundo Sosa and optioned Buddy Kennedy. Aramis Garcia was outrighted to Lehigh Valley. The affiliates are starting to clear their rosters with end-of-season transactions. Players are being activated from the 7-day Injured Lists and the Development Lists. Players on the 60-day Injured Lists don’t have to be activated until the fifth day after the World Series.
Lehigh Valley (31-37, 65-76, seventh in their division, 5 games remaining) Lost to Worcester, 14-9. Mick Abel pitched 2.1 innings and gave up 9 runs (8 ER) on 8 hits and 3 walks. He struck out one. Jonah Dipoto allowed both inherited runners to score on a 2-out single. He pitched 2.1 innings and gave up no more runs allowing 2 hits and striking out two. Freddy Tarnok stranded two inherited runners and followed that with 1.1 scoreless innings with 2 strikeouts. Griff McGarry started the seventh but was lifted after 3 batters and 3 walks. Nick Nelson cleared the bases of McGarry’s runners with a hit batter, single, and wild pitch. Then he gave up 2 runs of his own on a 2-run single. His line was one inning, 2 runs on 2 hits, a walk, hit batter, wild pitch, and 2 strikeouts. Tyler McKay pitched 2 scoreless innings striking out three.
Trailing by 9 runs, the IronPigs got a run back in the third inning. Otto Kemp doubled with one out and Carlos De La Cruz chased him home with an RBI single. They closed the gap even more with 4 runs in the sixth. Scott Kingery led off with a single. Carson Taylor followed with a single. Rafael Marchan grounded into an RBI force out to plate a run. Darick Hall doubled to put two runners in scoring position. With 2 outs, David Dahl stroked a 2-run double. After a walk to Jim Haley, Dahl scored on an RBI single by Kemp. The IronPigs rallied in the ninth scoring 4 runs. Kemp opened the inning by getting hit by a pitch. De La Cruz singled. Trevor Schweke walked to load the bases. Carson Taylor walked to force in a run. A new pitcher got two quick outs, then they scored on a 2-run single by McKenna and an RBI single by Dahl. But that was it.
David Dahl had 3 hits and 3 RBI.

Mick Abel had a very difficult year……this off-season he will have a tough time overcoming the trials from this past season…hopefully he rebounds. It is definably a lesson learned, and he has to regain his confidence.

Wow is Mick Abel not in our top 30! Crawford will be our minor league player of the year not sure about pitcher of the year, no one in the top 30.

Have you looked at Klassen’s numbers at AA with the Angels? He makes Abel’s walk rate look good.
