Box Score Recap (9/15/24)

Lehigh Valley lost.  They rallied with 4 runs in the seventh inning to take the lead but gave back the lead in the bottom of the inning.  Reading lost the final game of their season.  They took the lead with 2 runs in the second inning but finally relinquished the lead in a 4-run eighth.


Lehigh Valley (31-36, 65-75, seventh in their division, 6 games remaining) Lost to Scranton, 5-4.  Kyle Tyler pitched 5.2 innings and gave up 3 runs on 4 hits and a walk.  He struck out 6, threw a wild pitch, and gave up a HR.  Jose Cuas stranded an inherited runner and pitched one inning.  He allowed 2 runs on 3 hits and a walk while striking out two.  He threw a wild pitch and hit a batter.  Andrew Bellatti stranded 2 inherited runners and pitched 1.1 scoreless innings striking out one.

The IronPigs overcame a 3-run deficit with 4 runs in the seventh inning.  Jim Haley opened the inning by getting hit by a pitch.  One out later, Haley moved to third on a double by Otto Kemp.  Both scored on a 2-run single by David DahlDahl stole second and scored on an RBI double by Carlos De La Cruz.  He later scored on an RBI single by Ryan McKenna.

Edmundo Sosa played the whole game at shortstop.  He went 1-5.

Reading (28-41, 59-78, finished fifth in their division for the second half) Lost their final game of the season to Harrisburg, 4-2.  Matt Osterberg came off the injury list to pitch four shutout innings.  He gave up 5 hits and struck out two.  Jack Dallas pitched two scoreless innings allowing one hit and striking out two.  Wesley Moore pitched a scoreless inning.  Gunner Mayer pitched one inning and gave up 4 runs (only one earned) on 4 hits striking out two.

Reading took an early lead with 2 runs in the second inning.  Gabriel Rincones and Robert Moore opened the inning with singles.  Both runners advanced on a double steal.  The game’s first run crossed the plate on an RBI single by Zach Arnold.  The second scored on an RBI force out by Ethan Wilson.  They maintained this lead until the eighth inning.

I don’t normally check this.  But when I went back to verify Rincones’ stolen base, I noted that the game time was 2 hours and 7 minutes.  Pretty quick for 8.5 innings.

    1. He could, but he’s 23 and was undrafted. Not only that, he’s a 1B/DH. Best case, he should be in the 20s if that will make you feel better.

    2. Romus, the list of prospects is just the guys whose season is over. Abel, Johnson, Mercado, McGarry, De La Cruz, and Kemp are still active with the IronPigs for the week.
