Good luck to the CWater rookies in their first playoffs. When you look at our upper levels, it appears like lots of guys could be released before next season. Lots of guys seem to have maxed out their abilities, especially the relievers. That’s always the sad part.

Funny you should mention that. I just started compiling the information I need for the comprehensive Offseason Roster and Payroll Information article I publish after the World Series.
The Phillies have about 27 minor leaguers eligible to become free agents at Lehigh Valley and Reading. That’s practically a full minor league roster. Probably is a full roster when you factor in the players on the 40 they choose not to retain plus the Rule 5 eligibles they could lose.
I hope that player agents see the difficulties the Phillies had this season with reserves at Triple-A and are more willing to sign with the Phillies this offseason. A lot of our key guys will be a year older.

Based onmyreading at https://philliesminorthoughts.com/scouting-reports/rule-5-eligible-players/https://philliesminorthoughts.com/scouting-reports/rule-5-eligible-players/ Robinson Pina would probably be my only add to the 40-manto protect him from Rule 5 selection.

Which players are you talking about?
Baseball is a harsh game. Easily 90% of the players in the minors are filler. And even then, sometimes you need somebody to get hurt or be ineffective to get an opportunity. Just look at who had their debuts with the Phillies this season: Mercado, Phillips, Johnson, Lazar. The first 3 are tied directly to Turnbull getting hurt and Walker being ineffective.
People don’t realize that the jump in talent between AAA and the bigs is huge.

One guy , it appears to me who may be let go is OFer former 2nd round pick Ethan Wilson…..a high pick who really never materialized and reached his potential after being drafted. Will be 25 years old….probably time for a change of scenery for him

Usually high draft picks get a longer leash, but it would not surprise me if he got cut.

Let go? Or, just not protected? Wilson is one of 2 position players who will experience the Rule 5 draft for the first time this year. The other is Felix Reyes. The Phillies only have about 15 first timers this go round, the rest are pitchers, headed by Abel and McGarry.
This would be Moises Chace second time eligible for the draft. I imagine the Phillies might add him to the 40 to protect him.

Yes….he will be left unprotected I assume. If no one selects him, or as free agent he is unsigned, Phillies may invite him back…maybe up to LHV, similar to what they did Kingery and Hall. I do think Wilson does not yet qualify under the Rule 55 free agency for minor leaguers….he may be a year short of that, not sure. Use to be six years. or two Rule 5 pass overs.

Wilson signed out of college in 2021. He is under contract for another 3 years. He becomes a free agent after the 2027 season.

I think so, and he would not have cost $72mil. for 4 years. Isn’t 2.5 to 5.8 M per yr. the range? I mean a #5, yeah I think he would.

I was away on vacation last week and pretty much unplugged so I missed Miller’s promotion. That was pretty aggressive of them so they must see something they really like….
