Lehigh Valley lost; Phillips got shelled in his first start since being optioned; Clemens and Kroon homered.  Reading lost; Skirrow gave up 3 runs, Brito had a run-scoring triple.  Jersey Shore won; Jimenez gave up 4 runs in two innings, Estanista threw two scoreless; Anthony (RBI triple, HR) and Miller (3-run triple) had big hits.  Clearwater lost.  Saltiban had 2 more RBIs.  DSL Red lost and DSL White won.

Lehigh Valley (22-22, 56-61) lost to Rochester, 9-4.  Phillips gave up 5 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks in 3.1 innings.  McGarry pitched a scoreless inning but walked three.  Tarnok came off the IL and gave up 3 runs on a 3-run HR and struck out 3 in one inning.

Clemens hit a solo HR (8) in the third.  Haley drew a bases-loaded walk in the fourth.  Kroon hit a 2-run HR (10) in the sixth.

Jersey Shore (25-24, 63-52) beat Brooklyn, 10-9.  Jimenez gave up 4 runs in two innings on 4 hits, 2 walks, and 2 HR.  Estanista pitched two scoreless innings for the win.

Anthony tripled in a run in the first inning.  A force out by Schreffler in the fourth brought in their second run.  They scored 6 runs to tie the game in the sixth on a bases-loaded HBP by Scheffler, a sac fly by Viars, a passed ball, and a 3-run triple by Miller.  They took the lead on an error in the eighth and added an insurance run on a solo HR (3) by Anthony.

Three runs scored in the fifth on a ground out by Caba and a 2-run single by Saltiban.  They added a run in the eighth on an RBI single by Hettiger.

  1. I belive the DSL regular season concluded on 8/20/2024. Both of the Phillies teams finisfed under .500 and will miss the playoffs this year

  2. Nori 2 BBs is what I like to see from a young a player to start his pro career.

    Saltiban still 19 is younger than our last 3 1st rnd picks. He has showed improvement

    1. Really, really nice to see Miller bounce back like this. His performance was down for so long it was disconcerting but it’s impossible to know what’s really going on with a developing player through box scores, so that was truly great to see.

  6. CLW got smoked last night. Joel Dragoo a 21 y/o CF in his SSS of 27 PAs is slashing 455/556/1.147 LOL. Drafted in the 7th round. My friends son played against him in the Big South said he can really swing it. We’ll see he will be 22 in January so he’ll probably go the CLW to JS route next season.

    You guys covered Miller’s great night JS was the only team to win a game last night. Ugh…! Neunborn had a nice outing to 7 Ks 1 BB over 6 IP. And I don’t remember reading much about Chenault 23 6′ 5″ 200 LBs but through CLW and JS he has 56Ks in 39.2 IP. Looks like a reliever to me but they could be valuable so we can possibly stop trading really good prospects for RP rentals.

    Reading got smoked too. Fausnaught gave up 7 runs 3 earned. He did K 6 in 5.1 IP. 9 Hits though ouch!

    1. I joked about the “great” Joel Dragoo after he was drafted, just funning on his unusual name. But look who’s laughing now? His last season at an admittedly obscure baseball school was, nonetheless, insanely good. What a start he is having in pro ball.

      And how about that Keaton Anthony? I think he’s going to keep hitting at AA and we will start seeing what we really have when he gets to AAA. The hit tool is impressive.

  7. I saw it suggested yesterday by DeRosa that it would be quite the coup if if the Nats turned around and signed Soto after trading him for Abrams, Wood and Gore and then landing Dylan Crews out of their tanking LOL

    I give that an almost 0% chance of happening but it is interesting to think about the Philosophy employed by Rizzo to reset that ship.

  9. So far, it looks like Fort Wayne Indiana native and former Iowa Hawkeye Keaton Anthony could be the best UDFA the Phillies have signed in ages. Besides hitting the ball squarely, his peripherals are outstanding …K-15% and BB-13%. He may be able to taste a little of AA pitching at Reading come September.

    1. At age 23, he has put himself on the Phillies radar. He’s handling Reading quite well and it would not shock me to see him start at Lehigh next season.
