Box Score Recap (8/16/24)

Lehigh Valley was shut out, Seth Johnson tossed five shutout innings.  Reading won, Marcus Lee Sang hit his 12th HR.  Jersey Shore won, Mitch Neunborn pitched well into the seventh inning and Aidan Miller hit a HR.  Clearwater won in ten innings, Devin Saltiban had 4 RBIs on a double and his 16th HR.  DSL Red and DSL White both won.


Lehigh Valley (22-19, 56-58) lost to Worcester, 3-0.  Seth Johnson pitched five shutout innings allowing one hit and 3 walks.  He struck out four.  Andrew Bellatti pitched 0.1 innings giving up 3 runs on 3 walks striking out one.  Dylan Covey allowed 3 inherited runners to score and pitched one inning allowing a hit and a walk.  He struck out one.  Griff McGarry stranded one inherited runner and pitched 0.2 scoreless innings walking one.  Michael Mercado pitched a scoreless inning allowing a hit and striking out two.

The IronPigs had 3 hits – one by Kody Clemens and 2 by Cody Roberts.

Reading (18-25, 49-62) beat New Hampshire, 10-6.  Jean Cabrera pitched four innings giving up 5 runs (4 ER) on 7 hits and a walk.  He struck out five.  Andrew Walling pitched two scoreless innings allowing 2 hits and striking out five.  Wesley Moore pitched a scoreless inning allowing a hit, walk, and striking out one.  Andrew Baker blew the save pitching one inning giving up one run on 2 hits and a walk.  He struck out one.  Daniel Harper pitched a scoreless inning allowing a hit and striking out two.

Reading scored 5 runs in the third inning on a bases-loaded walk by Carson Taylor, a wild pitch, a 2-run double by Trevor Schweke, and a sac fly by Ethan Wilson.  They added a run in the fourth on a solo HR (12) by Marcus Lee Sang.  They broke a tie with 4 runs in the eighth on a 3-run run double by Erick Brito and a throwing error.

The BlueClaws scored a run in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Diego Gonzalez.  They scored 2 runs in the fifth on a 2-run HR (4) by Aidan Miller.

The Threshers scored a run in the fifth inning on an RBI double by John Spikerman.  They went ahead with 2 runs in the seventh on a 2-run single by Devin Saltiban.  The won with 2 runs in the tenth inning on a 2-run HR (16) by Saltiban.

Starlyn Caba made a couple of spectacular plays at short.

  1. Saltiban has really come on after a slow start. You have a 19 year old middle infielder with legit power. Sixteen homers in the FSL and he has position versatility. Hope they don’t flip him next deadline trading season for the usual rental reliever.

  3. Miller with his first back to back games with homers. He’s definitely looking more comfortable there now after the very slow start.

  4. Seth Johnson could be a viable end of rotation guy……was able to hold his 4Sm at mid-90s (95-96) thru the 5th, though did tick down a mph in the 5th. Do not know his spin rate.
