  1. baseball America midseason update seems to rank our prospects higher than the mlb update for what it’s worth. I also liked johnson and Chace from Baltimore more than where they are ranked.

    1. I’m surprised CDL, McGarry and Mercado are still on the list.

In my opinion, you need to be a lights out reliever to be ranked in the top 30. The shine is off Mercado and McGarry is still walking too many guys.

  2. I don’t put a lot of faith in these. Does it make any sense to rank a recent HS draft pick over Rincones, an accomplished college player with an impressive body of work up to the third highest level of professional baseball.

    1. Exactly…the larger sites…BA, ESPN, MLB.com, BR, Fangraphs….may all have their individual criteria set up for their specific ranking. One thing for sure….does generate clicks and discussions.

    2. At this point, it’s all about projection with these draft picks. Rincones now has a book on him and maybe some evaluators feel that his projection and/or ceiling was not as good as previously thought.

In the end, all these rankings are subjective. It’s up to the player to determine their path. But the numbers say that elite prospects have a higher probability to succeed and outperform.

      1. I think Rincones’ biggest ranking issue is that, in a critical age year (23), he was injured and invisible most of the year. I’m not sure it’s anything more than that.

He’s a pretty decent prospect. The issue with him is almost exclusively his hit tool, but the power and plate discipline have been growing and very consistent. Has also shown surprising speed on the bases. I think AAA will be very important for him, Crawford and Kemp. Next year will be interesting.

  3. Crawford is proving that he is a legitimate prospect. He has made the jump from level to level without much trouble. Do you think he starts in Reading next year and if he does well out of the gate, he moves to LHV?

    1. I think if he continues hitting this well, then he may start in AAA. This team may have all three OF positions available to win out of the gate next year. Him not being a top 105 prospect on ESPN is a little baffling.
