Phillies Claim RHP Kyle Tyler

The Phillies claimed RHP Kyle Tyler off waivers from the Miami Marlins.

The Phillies immediately optioned Tyler to Lehigh Valley.  To make room on the 40-man roster, they designated RHP Nick Nelson for assignment.

Tyler made 7 starts for the Marlins in his 8 appearances this year with a 0-2 record and 5.40 ERA.  He had made 9 starts in 11 appearances for the Marlin’s Triple-A squad going 4-2 with a 3.06 ERA.  He appears to be starting pitcher depth for the IronPigs whose rotation includes Mick Abel, Ricardo Pinto, Alan Rangel, and David Buchanan.

Nelson joins Max Castillo as starting pitchers designated from the IronPigs in the past 4 days.

SP Freddy Tarnok remains on the 7-day injury list (hip) where he has been since July 9th.  Zach Haake is the only other bulk innings pitcher the Phillies have at the Triple-A level.

  1. I think it’s time to recognize that the Phils are not a good club. They are several games under 500 since the London Sunday loss. They haven’t played well in any area. Their hitting, fielding, starting pitching, and relief pitching have all been mediocre since that Sunday June 9 loss. That’s a 54 game stretch, a full 1/3 of the season! Not good at all. Was the first two months the mirage or was it this third?

  2. Yes they are not good. Arizona just took apart, there three best pitchers. D.D has box his self in corner with some bad contracts. Can’t see how they turn it around

    1. rocco…..you are correct, boxed himself into a corner…..hard now to move Walker and Casty with those contracts. Hopefully it was not premature with Sanchez. JTR they can wait it out now after next season.

      1. Romus. Your 4 wins were correct. Afraid you could see this coming for a while with this group. Something is missing. Not sure what it is.

Murray that is interesting. Which is the mirage. The first third of the season or the middle third. I honestly do not know but have a feeling which was correct.

In some of these games they are not even competitive. It is one thing to lose but to not compete speaks volumes about someone. I had previously stated you would see basically the same team on the field in 25 as now. If this season goes South as it is now that may not be the case plus some heads will roll if the ship does not get back on course.
