Box Score Recap (8/2/24)

Lehigh Valley won and is in sole possession of first place.  Reading won.  Jersey Shore lost.  Clearwater was suspended with a 3-run lead.  Four draft picks were in the lineup.  Both DSL teams lost.


Lehigh Valley (20-11, 54-50) beat Jacksonville, 14-5.  Staked to a 10-0 lead, David Buchanan pitched four innings and gave up 5 runs on 8 hits and a walk.  He struck out five.  Andrew Bellatti pitched a scoreless inning striking out one.  Griff McGarry pitched a scoreless inning striking out three and picked up the win.  Zach Haake pitched two scoreless innings allowing a hit and a walk striking out two.  Max Lazar pitched one scoreless inning allowing a hit and striking out one. 

The IronPigs opened up a big lead and coasted to victory.  They scored 4 runs in the first inning on a ground out by Darick Hall, a wild pitch, an RBI double by Rodolfo Castro, and another wild pitch.  They scored once in the second on a solo HR (4) by Matt Kroon.  They added 5 runs in the third on a sac fly by Kroon, a base-loaded walk by Hall, an RBI single by Rafael Marchan, and a 2-run single by Kody Clemens.  They scored 3 more times in the seventh on a solo HR (5) by Kroon and a 2-run HR (22) by Scott Kingery.  They tacked on a run in the ninth on a solo HR (9) by Clemens.

Reading (13-18, 44-55) beat Hartford, 8-2.  Robinson Pina pitched 6.2 innings and gave up 2 runs (1 ER) on 5 hits and a walk.  He struck out four.  Andrew Walling stranded an inherited runner with the score tied and pitched 1.1 scoreless innings allowing a hit and a walk.  He got the win when Reading posted 6 runs in the eighth.  Andrew Baker pitched a scoreless inning walking one and striking out two.

Reading scored a run in the first inning on a solo HR (11) by Marcus Lee Sang.  The took the lead again with a run in the third on a solo HR (7) by Caleb Ricketts.  With the game tied, they scored 6 runs in the eighth on an RBI single by Kendall Simmons, a 3-run HR (4) by Ethan Wilson, an RBI single by Lee Sang, and Cade Fergus scored on a throwing error when he stole third base.

Jersey Shore (16-18, 54-46) lost to Hudson Valley, 7-1.  Mitch Neunborn pitched five inning and gave up 2 runs (1 ER) on 2 hits and a walk.  He struck out one.  Trey Dillard pitched 0.1 innings and gave up 3 runs on 2 hits and a walk striking out one.  Benony Robles allowed an inherited runner to score, gave up 2 runs (1 ER) on 2 hits, and didn’t record an out.  Danny Wilkinson stranded an inherited runner, retired 2 batters, striking out one.

The BlueClaws scored their only run in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Keaton Anthony.

Devin Saltiban led off with his 13th HR.  After Starlyn Caba struck out, John Spikerman got his first professional hit, a double.  He scored on a HR by Eduardo Tait, his third.  After a lightning delay, Carter Mathison got his first professional hit, a single.  Then the clouds opened up.

All four draft picks who were assigned to the Threshers were in the lineup.  Spikerman batted third and played RF.  Mathison played CF and batted fifth.  De Martini played 3B batting seventh, Brady Day played 2B batting eighth.

  1. Tait with 3 homers already in only a few games. Does he hit ok off of lefties yet? It’s early but can he stay behind the plate? This is a kid turning 18 this month. Fingers crossed…
