  1. Scouting report on Chace from the O’s from last season:

Moises Chace – RHP (A): The 6-1 right-hander started to put things together a bit late in the summer before getting shut down for an injury. The 20-year old’s fastball sits 92-93 and touches 94-95. His best pitch is a solid average change up that works really well against lefties who slashed just 1.82/.310/.347/.657 off him. Throws a slider and curveball though both pitches are very inconsistent and have to improve. Command overall is still a big problem as his fastball tends to run up and away too often.

    1. And from earlier this season on the 2019 signee Chace:

“Chace struck out nine in his season debut… Chace’s 4Smr sat 94-95 mph with 18 inches of induced vertical break and 8-9 inches of arm side run (ASR). He mixed in a sweepy slider at 82-83 mph with 10-11 inches of horizontal break and a changeup at 83-84 mph. Chace missed bats with all of his pitches and was consistently around the zone. He’s an interesting off-the-radar name with intriguing stuff and strong early performance.”

    1. It is crazy to me what Tait is doing. Since 5/31, in 39 games (138 ABs), he’s slashing a crazy .362/.404/.630/1.034.

All of this at age 17 … turns 18 in August. My daughter just graduated from high school. If a boy was born in August, his parents almost always hold them back. If he were in the states, and that was the case, he would be heading INTO his senior year of high school. Worst case, he would be a draftee this year. Either way, his numbers at this age are crazy good!

      1. Tait does have some issues with LHPs…..SSS, only has face them 71 PAs in his two years…..and his BA is not great, but his K rate this year alone vs LHPs is plus—4Ks in 46PAs. So he is making a concerted effort to put his bat on the ball…typically LHHs vs LHPs will have high K rates, beside the low BA….but Tait is just the opposite so far and does have a credible OBP vs LHPs. The truer test will be at Hi-A and the pitching he will face there and there will be more of a sampling size to go on.

        1. How great would it be if Tait learns to switch hit? If all goes well, he could have a 2028 ETA in the show. That gives him a long glide path to hone skills that could make him an ‘all situations’ starter.

    1. Torn ligaments in hand. I’ve been impressed at how much he is walking. Miller too.

  2. On the positive side, Abel was up to 98 in the first inning. And held 95 in the 4th.

On the negative side, he has no idea where the ball is going and has 20 grade command.
