Transactions –
7/20/2024 – Lehigh Valley activated RHP David Buchanan from the 7-day IL e
If anyone is interested, the first 3 files under Rosters and Stuff on the pull-down menu above are up to date as of July 20th.
And, the Transactions menu option is up-to-date for the 2024 season thru July 9th.
Question: You can be officially on the 60 day IL and play in games? I ask a couple times what Castro’s injury was, but no one was forthcoming. I thought it was serious (60 day)? I didn’t think he had been on it that long, but time flies when your having fun, huh?

Furthermore, if what I read is correct, (Altoona Curve site) there is no 15 day or 60 day IL in MiLB……. only exists in MLB!
So, technically Painter is on the 7 day IL, because that’s all there is! Am I correct on this Jim?

No.

Jim: I was going to post the document which has the 2024 copyright of minor league baseball on it and as I said before the Altoona Curve. Don’t want to start a ruckus, so if you want the statement ask if not forget it, your call.

There is a 60-day IL in the minors, as well as a Full Season IL.
The 60-day IL does not become active until the minor league season starts.
There is a limit of 15 players who can be on the 60-day IL in the minors.
Those players on the 60-day IL do not count against team or organization roster figures during the season.
Players on the 60-day IL (and the FS IL, major and minor leagues) must be activated by the 5th day after the world series.
Once reinstated from the 60-day IL (and FS-IL) players do counts against roster limits.
I do not remember what Castro’s injury is. He’s on the 40 so it shouldn’t be a big secret. But he was optioned to Lehigh Valley and put on the 7-day IL there without any mention of the injury. He started a rehab later in April but was never reinstated. He was added to the 60-day IL several weeks later. That does not start a new “clock” on reinstatement, his time on the 7-day IL counts as time on the 60-day IL. (The IronPigs probably just needed a roster spot, or they finally had room on the 60 – those spots are more important now that there is a limit.) Castro has begun rehab starts again. I believe there is a 30-day clock on rehab starts then a reinstatement must occur unless the injury is affected negatively or a new injury occurs, which must have been the case earlier in the season. Regarding transactions that could/should have been filed after/during the earlier rehab, they were more than likely submitted by the Phillies, but fouled up by the league office. MLB took over the minors a few years ago but doesn’t spend much time keeping minor league transactions up-to-date or accurate. For instance, Kody Clemens no longer appears on the Phillies 40-man roster on the Phillies page or his player page yet there hasn’t been a transaction lately other than his being optioned to Lehigh Valley. And, David Buchanan was activated from the IL on the 20th, but the transaction wasn’t posted by MLB until the late afternoon of 21st when he started a game for Lehigh Valley. A further example of the lack of concern (?) about minor league transactions in the MLB offices in NYC is that the transactions in this week’s Phillies discussion include 7 transactions that didn’t post timely, one as far back as July 1st.
Sorry for rambling. Slow transaction posting really irritates me.

Thanks for the comprehensive post that clears up a good deal of missing info about the Milb/MLB merger. Also, thanks for this post and all the good things you do for all of us here on Phuture Phillies. Much appreciated.

Matt Winkleman’s spreadsheet shows General Burkholder (sorry, I love Hogan’s Heroes) signed for $2.5 M. That’s $1,148,000 over slot.

Like to see if Carlos De La Cruz would be a viable alternative ilo of Pache on the active roster. Perhaps after he gets some AAA time at LHV. He can also play all three OF positions and can go to first base if necessary.

Cristian Pache is an elite defender in the OF and had a .725 OPS at AAA, most of them at age 22.
CDL is not an elite defender and has a .628 OPS at Lehigh at age 24. Not only that, CDL was passed over in the rule 5 draft.
There is absolutely no reason to believe that CDL can hit better than Pache at the ML level.

Pache will not be on the roster on Aug 1

If he was sitting 97, that is something. Off-speed stuff looks pretty nasty. Looks like a slider, though one of the Ks looked like it might have been a change-up. He’s listed as 6’3 160 lbs. Looks taller and heavier than that.

I think it was a slider and it had a lot of depth. And there’s absolutely no way he’s 160 lbs. He has to be close to 200 lbs.
