Box Score Recap (7/19/24)

The break is over, and the affiliates are all back in action tonight, though it wasn’t a good night for the organization.

Lehigh was held to a field goal losing 14-3.  Reading lost.  Jersey Shore lost in a walk off in ten.  Clearwater was held to a run and lost.  The FCL game was suspended due to heavy rain.  DSL Phillies Red lost in a walk off.  DSL Phillies White were suspended while trailing.

FCL Phillies (29-24) played during the break and went 1-2.  The game today was suspended in the top of the second with no score.  The nine-inning game will be completed tomorrow with a 7-inning game to follow.  They are in third place, 4.0 games back with 6 to play and an elimination number of three.  The only route to the post season for the Phillies is if they win their remaining 6 games (4 vs the last-place Blue Jays and 2 against the first place Yankees).  Then they need the Blue Jays to win their two games against the second-place Tigers.  And finally, they need the Tigers to win 2 of 3 from the Yankees.

  1. Looking at Justin Crawford’s splits, obviously he has a better average vs righties but he curiously has a better slug vs lefties. Not sure how much that will last but for a 20 year old at AA with a .806 OPS across 2 levels, I will definitely take that. He’s put himself in position to get a call up in 2025. I think he’ll end the year as a top 50 prospect and I’m considering whether or not he should be untouchable.

  2. Rincones is also back at Reading from his rehab assignment, and he promptly hits a HR. He missed so much time that you wonder if the Phillies will leave him at Reading for the rest of the season.

      1. McGowan, too. In fact, a lot of the Phillies contributions to the AFL roster may be from among guys who just came off or are soon coming off the IL.

  3. What is the value of sending a AAA or AA player to JS for rehab? I would think AAA has better facilities. It certainly isn’t because they don’t want to lessen the AAA’s team chance of losing, is it?

    1. Matt. Just a dumb question on my part. Were you Matt13 before? I think he had grandkids in Florida around age of mine. Matt13 kind of disappeared about time Hinkie did. He was always really nice to me. Sorry if I am way off base but I know some names are now different.

  4. Jim, is there a reason why there hasn’t been that many promotions from FCL to Clearwater? JS, Reading, even Lehigh got some reinforcements. Are the Phillies waiting for the 2025 draft picks to sign?

    1. The second-round pick is ticketed for Clearwater to play SS. Other than that, I don’t know about the other picks. I think most will be playing in the bridge league. There really aren’t many FCL players ready to move up. Maybe a pitcher or two. The one I saw today looks ready. And, yes, that means I don’t think Caba or Tait get promoted.
