Does Tait get promoted anytime soon???
Fausnaught???

Braeden Fausnaught should probably get promoted because he’s already 24 and performing ok. Matt Osterberg was 24 last season when he got promoted to Reading.
Tait is killing it but he’s still only 17. If he was on the Padres, he would be at high-A already. I’m expecting Tait (and likely others) to get promoted after the Phillies start signing their 2025 draft picks.

Agreed – I expect Tait and Caba to get at least 100 PAs in Clearwater this year, perhaps more.
Almost impossible to overemphasize how impressive Tait is as a 17 year-old. I want to see what he does in low A ball, but he’s making a great showing.
And, by the way, while we are talking about prospects, even though he’s older, Rafael Marchan is proving himself to be one hell of a ballplayer. Not only is he the clear back-up next year at the latest, he could easily be the team’s starter when the Realmuto contract ends. Marchan can flat out play and I think, right now, he’s at least a 2-3 WAR player – perhaps better.

Marchan’s inability to remain healthy for the past 5 years is leaving me wondering how long his hot streak lasts before he goes down.

This is a crazy thought … Tait will turn 18 at the end of August. If here were American, there is a REALLY good chance, with that birthdate, that he would be held back and would have just finished his JUNIOR year of high school.
Imagine the damage this young man would have done in high school this year (would be a senior if held on grade) …. CRAZY!!

Man, Weston belongs in the big leagues. Almost feel bad for him at this point.

Wilson is a close call. As hitter, he’s really not any better than David Dahl. His hit tool is not that great and it affects his overall game. But he has some position versatility that Dahl does not have. He’s a classic AAAA player.

Also helps he bats for the right side…..I think he can step in for Pache if the time ever comes that the Phillies move on from him.

Yup, a lot of times for guys like that it just comes down to opportunity. Rooker could easily be a AAAA guy in another organization (and he was for the first two years of his career) but since he went to Oakland and got a chance to play, he proved himself. Once you hit the mid to late 20s getting a real opportunity becomes so difficult

But he really earned that chance. In 2022, he hit 28 homers in 81 games with a 1.044 OPS in AAA. He also hit .289, so he showed at least an average-ish hit tool. I believe people ignore AAA stats (especially for hitters) at their peril. Most late bloomers start by hitting the living daylights out of the ball at AAA to the point where a promotion is clearly warranted. And that’s where Wilson has issues. He has real power, but he has never hit for a decent average at AAA suggesting his hit tool is probably not quite good enough for the majors. Also, he’s already 29. I’m not slamming Wilson, I’m just say that for every Brent Rooker there are 5 or 6 Weston Wilsons.

I know people on here follow prospects we’ve traded. I did not realize how much Hao Yu Lee is crushing it for Detroit’s AA team. That was a trade I think we’d like to have back given Lorenzen faded after the no-hitter and didn’t contribute to the playoff rosters.
Let’s hope we’re gaining more value this year if we’re trading potentially very good prospects like Caba, Tait, Klassen, etc.

The Phillies needed a starter, and let’s face it, Hao Yu Lee was blocked and was at High-A at the time. If he makes it, good for him. I had no issue with that trade at that time.

That’s what trade deadline deals are all about. One team gets (in theory) a lot more long term value back in exchange for giving a team in contention a needed piece for their playoff run NOW. The best way to avoid these trades is to plan in advance and load your roster. If there’s one thing I think DD is pretty good at doing, it’s trying to build redundancy into his opening day roster and the minor league system so these types of trades are kept to a minimum. But no matter what you do, there will always be holes and these types of painful trades will happen. So, yes, in terms of WAR, a Ben Brown is almost always going to crush a David Robertson and Hao Yu Lee is almost always going to produce more value than a Michael Lorenzen. You just have to scout your prospects well enough so that you’re not giving up a Ryne Sandberg or Max Scherzer.

No need for a book on trade deadline deals, catch, you covered what’s worth knowing in your short post. I agree 100 %.
