I agree, both guys should be jumped up soon.
Bergolla just keeps hitting, now up to 294 after a horrible April.
Rojas struggling initially which is good. He has to improve to be successful at AAA and then those improvements will carry him forward but it won’t happen overnight.

Sure hope Dombrowski and the crew do not let temptation get the better of them over the next month, especially for any rentals, and include Graves or Aldegheri in any deadline deals…..other GMs will surely want them included. Still irks at me a bit on that Ben Brown for Robertson event.

you do have to trade talent to get talent. Most mlb gms have assistants and scouts that aren’t fools and know the prospects that are worth something.

Agree…….but when it comes to two month rentals…..the buyer most times has the leverage, especially rentals where the selling club will not be able to keep the player after Nov. and lose the player to free agency. Play hard ball in the negotiations.
Case in point……AJ Preller has continued to ransom the Padres future on many occasions to grasp at that ring…..he has given up so many prospects to what avail…….he was fortunate in the Tatis deal and just maybe he will make out on the Soto deal to the Yankees.

Preller is such a weird beast. He does a great job of assembling talent and then, when the team is close he trades it almost all away for players and when it isn’t enough, he has to start all over again.
By the way, I would have to think DD is going to make some trade and be prepared that it will hurt a bit, which is fine if it wins us a championship and it isn’t of a future star. Abel and Crawford and Aldegheri should have their things packed, just in case. Don’t see the team moving Painter, Miller, or Tait. Caba might be play. Not saying he should be, just saying I think he will be.

In order to execute well on trades you need to have a deep system we don’t really have that at present.

No we don’t have a deep system, but we aren’t trading for top end stars, either.
We have plenty of ammunition for the types of players we truly need – right OF bat, relief pitcher.

Catch, find most of what you have said here reasonable. Many on here share the opinion on Painter and have already given him sainthood, but I haven’t ………. prior to his injury I had the privilege to see him 4 or 5 times and at the time of the injury his secondary stuff needed work to play in the bigs.
The injury took the development of that stuff out of play. So, with the successful TJ surgery accomplished, he still has the recuperation and secondary development hills to climb yet, IMO. Wish him well, but steady as she goes!

oldruff – thanks for the words.
I believe you that Painter’s secondary stuff may have needed work, but you’ve got to look at what he did, how he did it, and how quickly he did it. He ran through and dominated our minor leagues in a single season at age 19, with damned good command and a 97-99 MPH fastball. That’s elite stuff. So, yeah, I’m sure he needs work and he may disappoint, but if you were going to “draw” up an elite pitching prospect, you’d paint a picture that looked a lot like Painter (okay, I’m done being punny) – so that’s why we have a lot of hope for him. But, sure, he’s going to have work to do and it’s not clear he’ll recover fully, although most do from this surgery.
