  1. Great to hear Pan is starting to throw.
Aldegheri gave up the 2 homers but I’ll take the 10 Ks as a sign that he’s tough to hit. Klassen only gave up the one hit which I’ll take also. They really walked 11 but still won? That’s too funny.

  2. Here’s a little something you all might like. With injuries to Rincon and Farquhar, the Phillies might consider promoting some middle infielders from Low A and even Rookie ball before the first half is over. Might also extend to some pitchers and other players. I would expect the players to be performing above and beyond their individual development plans. I don’t really know anything specific, but some of their rosters are a little thin with all the injuries. They can’t keep bringing guys in from outside the organization with the player limit, although I have them with an opening or two. They don’t have a lot of room on the 60-day IL to stash players. They have 14 of the 15 allowable spots filled. Sooo, it seems like a good time to bump a few guys up the ladder. Stay tuned.

    1. Just a ‘what if’ thought….what happens if unfortunately , lets say, 10 more guys go down with major sustained injuries and need to be 60-Day IL, is there any exemptions clauses/rules that the Phillies can use or do they have to petition the league to waiver that total limit?

      1. I would hope the rules aren’t so rigid that an exemption couldn’t be extended in the case of several major injuries. The rule was put in place because teams were abusing the list, including the Phillies. However, I think the organization would have to prove the need for an exemption and have to complete any internal moves that might create space on the 60.

For instance, there’s no limit to the number of players who can go on the Full Season Injury List. That could come into play. TJ pitchers like Andrew Painter, Dominic Pipkin, Erubiel Armenta, Marty Gair, Alex McFarlane, and Giussepe Velasquez could be transferred to the FSif there is no chance they are going to be activated this season.

C Angel Mata (Clearwater), OF Jorge Garcia (Clearwater), and LHP Angel Liranzo (FCL Phillies) are on the 60 and are stateside for medical attention that is better in the states than at the Academy. By rule they have to be on a roster. They could be exempted from the 15-player limit since they are effectively taking 60 slots from stateside players.

While Pan may be just starting his throwing program today, three or four other rehabbing pitchers threw live bullpens today. I think Jordan was one and he is on the 60. MLB might require activation or proof he is not ready to be activated.

RHP Nick Snyder was signed as a free agent back in December and has been on the 60 since teams were allowed to place players on the 60 on March 20th. Maybe just release him?

Jonh Henriquez is on the 60 but has been making rehab appearance since May 20th. He’s probably close to activation.

Sorry I can’t answer your original question better, but it got me thinking along the lines that followed.

        1. Thanks Jim….does sound like there are alternative ways to work around the MLB organizational player limits. I would think there are plans in place to face these unexpected events. God forbid a bus carrying a team has a tragic accident with multiple injuries or even fatalities, like that bus accident that happened to that junior hockey team in Canada.

    1. Control is and will likely remain the biggest concern with Klassen.

The good news is that he is throwing a full assortment of pitches for strikes and the low era and Ks keep coming. He is developing pitcher with a lot of talent and a lot of risk. But you can’t teach a 99 mph moving fastball.

    2. Not unless it becomes a habit over the next couple starts. He has completed 8 starts, 34 innings so far with just 8 walks and 51 strikeouts. Now, if his next couple starts are at Jersey Shore, I think we should no be alarmed if his walks tick up slightly. He would be facing better hitters.

Oh, and last night’s road game was called by a live umpire with the ABS as a challenge. It’s possible that the umpire’s strike zone was the reason for the spike. Last night’s game featured 18 walks, 11 by Threshers’ pitchers. I should have led with this.
