  1. Reminder: Only Phillies minor league comments are permitted in the Recaps. There is a Phillies Discussion from 5/20/2024 still open for all other stuff.

    1. Jim……you have now seen them for a few months…..what are your thoughts and impressions on the FCL Phillies Latin position players…Caba, Tait,  Aroon Escobar,  G.Rosario,  L. Rondon,  R. Perez and J. Pena.  Is it a little too early and over-the-top to get excited about this group?

      1. I don’t want to kill the enthusiasm. We’re “expected to have enthusiasms” (Untouchables?). But, it’s too early for me to get too excited. Luis Garcia is still fresh in my mind.

That said, Caba, Tait, Escobar, and G. Rosario are guys you want to keep an eye on. The Phillies think so too. They are the guys getting most of the at bats at their positions. Rosario has been a real surprise, but he’s been very consistent in his play on both offense and defense. Tait has come on after a slow start.

Caba is an excellent fielder. He hits well for the level, but he looks too small to me. A couple inches and a few pounds benefit him in my opinion. Escobar can hit. He looks like he’s going to burst out of his uni. Hopefully it’s muscle. He looks like a little growth spurt might help him too.

Rondon looks like a guy who slipped out of the picture. They were grooming him as a catcher the last two seasons. Not anymore. He’s now competing for time at second and third. His average is lower than the past two seasons as he’s getting fewer reps.

Perez has returned from his suspension well. He’s hitting for average and with power. Unfortunately, it appears Tait and Guillermo have pretty much pushed him to first base. The only time I’ve seen him in pads is when he catches between innings while the starter is putting his equipment back on after running the bases.

I haven’t seen enough of Pena to have an opinion.

Yemal Flores bears watching. He leads the team in HR along with Rosario. He has an OPS well over 1.000. Although his K% is too high for me at about 33%.

  2. Lazar has been quite a find. He just keeps getting outs. Good for Kingery. He might actually be a trade able asset with this power showing plus his versatility.
It looks like Rodriguez is done for the test, a shame.

    1. I’m pretty sure that nobody is going to be trading for 30 year old Scott Kingery. Every team has a player like Kingery in the minors. And I believe Kingery will be a FA next season so this will likely be his last season in the organization.

      1. I doubt that there’s many players who can play all the positions that Kingery can plus has 13 homers so far. I’m not suggesting he’s worth a lot but I could see a team have an injury in the majors and think Kingery could boost their bench and then give up an A ball player for him.

        1. Wonder if you can still trade players for international funny- money credits in increments of $250K? That can come in handy if a team would be willing to trade for him and give up the money.

        2. We got 2 players now in our Top 30 on MLB.com for Oliver Dunn. He may have been a little younger but lacks Kingery’s pedigree.

  3. Ricketts is opening some eyes for sure. If he moves up to LHV next season and does well, I imagine the Phillies might even move on from Stubbs.

    1. Move on from Stubby! He is the fabric of the team, the overalls, the guy who will run thru a brick wall. It will be a sad day when the Phillies have to let Stubby walk.
