Box Score Recap (5/19/24)

Lehigh Valley lost in 12 innings; Nick Nelson missed two opportunities to preserve leads.  Reading broke a losing streak by winning the final game of their series.  Jersey Shore won in ten innings.  Clearwater beat Daytona for their fourth win in a row and their sixth series win of seven.  The seventh was a 3-3 split with Lakeland, their main adversary in the West Division.  The FCL Phillies are off on Sundays.

Lehigh Valley (16-26) lost to Norfolk, 5-3 in 12 innings.  The game was scoreless through ten innings.  David Parkinson pitched six innings allowing 2 hits and a walk and striking out five.  Taylor Lehman pitched one inning allowing a hit and a walk.  Max Lazar pitched one inning allowing a walk and striking out three.  Beau Burr pitched two innings allowing a hit and walk and striking out four.  Nick Nelson couldn’t protect a one-run lead in the eleventh or a 2-run lead in the twelfth.  In 1.2 innings, he gave up 5 runs (3 earned) on 3 hits (one a HR) and a walk.

The IronPigs scored the game’s first run in the eleventh inning on an RBI double by Aramis Garcia.  They scored 2 runs in the twelfth on an RBI double by Weston Wilson and a fielding error.

Reading (17-22) beat Richmond, 6-2.  Konnor Ash pitched 3.0 innings allowing one run on 3 hits and 4 walks with 3 strikeouts.  Matt Russell pitched 2.0 scoreless innings allowing 2 walks and striking out two.  Mitch Neunborn 0.2 innings and gave up a run on 2 hits and a walk.  Andrew Schultz stranded 2 inherited runners and pitched a scoreless, no-hit 1.1 innings.  Cristian Hernandez pitched a perfect inning with 3 strikeouts.  Tommy McCollum pitched a 1-2-3 inning.

Reading scored 2 runs in the fourth inning on RBI doubles by Bryce Ball and Casey Martin.  They scored 2 runs in the seventh on a 2-run double by Carlos De La Cruz.  They added 2 more runs in the ninth on an RBI single by De La Cruz and an RBI single by Trevor Schwecke.

Jersey Shore (22-17) beat Hudson Valley, 6-5 in ten innings.  Starlyn Castillo gave up 2 runs in 4.2 innings on 3 hits and 4 walks.  He struck out six.  Jack Dallas stranded an inherited runner and pitched 1.1 innings.  He gave up 2 unearned runs on 2 hits and a walk.  Daniel Harper stranded 2 inherited runners and pitched 1.1 scoreless innings allowing a hit and a walk.  He struck out two.  Andrew Walling blew a save opportunity allowing a run on a hit and 2 walks.  Charles King got the win pitching 2.0 scoreless innings allowing 2 hits and preventing the unearned runner from scoring in the tenth.

The Blue Claws scored twice in the first inning on an RBI ground out by Leandro Pineda and a balk.  They scored again in the second on an RBI single by William Borgolla.  They opened up a 4-run lead with a run in the third on a solo HR (5) by Pineda.  They broke a tie in the seventh on a sac fly by Felix Reyes.  They went ahead in the tenth on a sac fly by Andrick Nava.

Cade Fergus and Emaarion Boyd had outfield assists, both at second base.

Clearwater (27-12) beat Daytona, 3-2.  In what appeared to be a bullpen game, Jonathan Petit opened and pitched three innings.  He allowed a run on 3 hits and struck out three.  Brandon Beckel pitched three scoreless innings allowing a hit and striking out five.  Paxton Thompson pitched two scoreless, no-hit innings striking out four.  Saul Teran pitched an inning and gave up a run on 2 hits and 2 walks, but still picked up his seventh save.

The Threshers scored a run in the first inning on an RBI single by Pierce Bennett.  They added 2 more runs in the second on a sac fly by Avery Owusu-Asiedu and an RBI single by Trent Farquhar.

After the second inning the Threshers managed just 2 walks (both in the third) and 2 singles (one in the fourth and one in the fifth).  They went down in order in the following three innings and were retied the final 11 in a row.

  1. Pouaka-Grego hasn’t played the last three games. I am assuming there is an injury and if so I hope it is minor.
