Box Score Recap (5/9/24)

Lehigh Valley lost again, but Griff McGarry had a strong inning, Scott Kingery had 2 dingers.  Reading won a high-scoring contest, Tyler McKay had a solid inning, Kendall Simmons rocked including 2 HRs, Carlos De La Cruz also homered.  Jersey Shore won, Daniel Harper closed out strong, Emaarion Boyd had a solid game, Cade Fergus and Erick Brito hit HRs.  Clearwater scored twice in the top of the ninth to win, Aidan Miller had 2 more RBI, Drew Garrett pitched two strong innings.  The FCL Phillies got pasted by the Yankees.  It is very hot and humid here at noon already, I feel for these kids.


FCL Phillies (2-2) lost to the Yankees, 10-3.  The Phillies had a 3-2 lead until suffering through an 8-run fourth inning.  Wilmer Blanco pitched 3.1 innings and gave up 7 runs (6 ER) on 6 hits, 3 walks, and a hit batter.  He struck out 5 and relinquished a HR.  Kleyderve Andrade allowed an inherited runner to score in 0.2 innings as well as 3 unearned runs on 2 hits and a walk.  He struck out one and also gave up a HR.  Pedro Reyes pitched 2.0 scoreless innings allowing a hit and a walk and striking out two.

The Phillies had a 3-2 lead before the fateful fourth.  They tied the game with a run in the second inning on an RBI single by Manolfi Jimenez.  They took lead with 2 runs in the third on an RBI single by Aroon Escobar and an RBI groundout by Guillermo Rosario.  The Phillies managed just 3 singles.

Lehigh Valley (12-21) lost to Syracuse,9-2.  Tyler Phillips (3-2, 5.10) pitched 6.0 innings (99 pitches) allowing 9 runs on 10 hits and 3 walks.  He struck out 3 and gave up a HR.  Taylor Lehman (2.92) pitched a 1-2-3 inning.  Recently re-signed Ricardo Pinto (I saw him at the Complex on Monday) pitched 1.0 inning allowing a hit and a walk and striking out one.  Griff McGarry (3.86) struck out two in a 1-2-3 inning (10 pitches, 10 strikes).

The IronPigs managed just 6 hits.  Two of them were solo HRs by Scott Kingery who homered in the second and seventh innings.  Scott Kingery (.232/.775) went 2-4 with 2 R, 2 HR (7), 2 RBI.

Reading (14-16) beat Hartford, 10-8.  Matt Osterberg (7.27) pitched 5.0 innings and gave up 3 runs on 8 hits.  He walked none, threw a wild pitch, hit 2 batters, struck out three, and gave up a HR.  Christian Hernandez (9.00) pitched 1.0 inning and gave up 2 runs (1 ER) on 3 hits.  Tyler McKay (1-0, 0.00) pitched a scoreless inning for the win allowing a hit and striking out a batter.  Eury Ramos (4.82) pitched 2.0 innings allowing 3 runs on 3 hits a walk, and a wild pitch.  He struck out one and gave up a HR.

Reading trailed 5-3 despite 2 runs in the fifth on a 2-run HR (2) by Kendall Simmons and a run in the sixth on a solo HR (1) by Carlos De La Cruz.  They took the lead with 6 runs in the seventh on an RBI single by Ethan Wilson, an RBI single by Robert Moore, a 2-run single by Jose Rodriguez, and a 2-run HR (2) by Carlos De La Cruz.  They added an insurance run in the eighth on a wild pitch.

Just returned from rehabbing in Clearwater, Kendall Simmons (.222/.735) went 2-3 with 3 R, 2 RBI, 2B, HR (2), and an HBP.  Ethan  Wilson (.243/.646) went 3-4 with a R, RBI, 2B, SB.

The BlueClaws took the lead with 2 runs in the second inning on a 2-run HR (1) by Erick Brito.  They added 2 runs in the third on a 2-run HR (3) by Cade Fergus (.234/.783).  They added an insurance run in the seventh on a fielder’s choice.  And, they tacked on a run in the eighth on an RBI single by Emaarion Boyd.  Leandro Pineda (.307/.883) went 2-2 with 2 R, RBI, 2B, 2 BB.  Erick Brito (.273/.733) went 2-4 with 2 R, 2 RBI, 2B, HR (1).

The Threshers scored a run in the second inning on when Aidan Miller was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.  They took the lead with 2 runs in the fourth on an RBI double by Avery Owusu-Asiedu (.204/.635) and an RBI single by Aidan Miller.  They retook the lead with 2 runs in the ninth on an RBI double by Pierce Bennett and a sacrifice fly by Bryson Ware (.188/.477).

  2. welcome back to Tyler Gilbert as well as Pinto. 
    Pineda is very hot but can he keep it up. He had a hot streak like this last year too but then had a long cold streak. Let’s hope yesterday is a sign of hope for DeLaCruz.
