Transactions –
5/08/2024 – Lehigh Valley placed RHP Zac Houston on the 7-day IL retroactive to 5/7
5/08/2024 – RHP Max Lazar assigned to Lehigh Valley from Reading
5/08/2024 – RHP Tyler McKay assigned to Reading from Lehigh Valley
5/08/2024 – Reading activated RHP Efrain Contreras from the 7-day IL
Aldegheri struggled with his command but made it through 6 innings and got to 100 pitches, I believe our first pitcher to get to 100.

Braeden Fausnaught threw 103 in his last start and both Buchanan and Phillips have been over 100 already.

I didn’t realize Fausnaught threw 100, that’s excellent. He’s having a great start to the season. The other two guys don’t excite me, although some folks think higher of Phillips.

Braeden Fausnaught is having a good season at JS but he needs to move up to Reading sooner rather than later. He’s already 24.

the average age for pitchers in the South Atlantic League is 23 – there are 105 pitchers in the league between the ages of 24 and 26. The average age of the Eastern League is 24.6 with 134 pitchers being 25 years of age or older. Age isn’t a overriding determining factor regardless in development however 24 is far from being too old for the level as the data reflects. – Steve Potter

For starting pitching and position players, age is a good indicator if the player will eventually become an elite player or at least starter level. So the Phillies need to find that out sooner rather than later. Dominating JS at age 24 doesn’t really tell us much. Dominating Reading or Lehigh at age 24 would be a better indicator of his future with the Phillies.

ok if you say so it must be correct 🤓. I think however there is leeway in personal judgement and the internal review regarding the stage of development the player is in. It’s not always tied to stats and game results. that’s what the public perceives because it’s all you are aware of. just sayin. Have a good rest of your day.

@PhilPhan, there will always be exceptions, but age is a big indicator. Jackson Holliday is the #1 prospect because he’s dominating AAA at age 20. He wouldn’t be the #1 prospect if he was doing that at age 23. When Andrew Painter was setting the world on fire in 2022, people were excited because he was doing that at age 19.

Good thing Reading is a hitters park or their offensive numbers might really look bad 🙂
System has some interesting prospects in the low minors but AAA/AA is rather short on talent.

Still holding out hope at the AAA level for LHV pitchers Abel, McGarry and Mercado and at the AA level players like Rincones and maybe Ricketts as a back-up MLB catcher. But you are correct….in the low minors things look more interesting.

Barring serious injury, Abel and Mercado won’t get their shot this season. McGarry won’t either unless he develops, but he’s behind Jose Ruiz and Nick Nelson I think.
We need Rincones to keep on hitting, he might push Castellanos to DH in 2026.
Ricketts is starting to hit a little at Reading, he could be a stopgap at catcher similar to Cameron Rupp (after the Phillies move on from Realmuto in 2026).

It takes time to build up a system and it’s probably one of the reasons why the Phillies had to sign Schwarber/Castellanos/Walker. There wasn’t anybody close that deserved a promotion. I’m hopeful that 2 years down the road, when Miller/Crawford/Caba/Klassen are at AA/AAA, the Phillies won’t have to spend that much money on FAs and just promote from within.

I was just going to comment on the state of AA and AAA and see you already did a credible job. Really hard to tell Reading is a hitters park, isn’t it!🤔

It’s going to be interesting to see how the Phillies approach his promotions. He’s turning 20 next month and he’s blocked by Bohm and Trea Turner so the Phillies can take it slow with him. But he’s on fire right now and he might force the Phillies’ hand very soon.

I think there is a scenario in which he comes up as Castellanos’s contract expires and they move Trea to RF.

he has terrific balance in his lower half really does remind me of the first time I saw Buster Posey. Also, has super quick bat and a discerning eye at the plate. This is definitely a kid to dream on.

Kind of reminds me of a mixture between Logan O’Hoppe with the plate stance and approach, and muscular structure and maybe an Austin Riley of the Braves.
