Rincon and Bergolla coming out of the gate a little slow. I know they didn’t have the profile of MLB All Stars but I was still hoping they flashed as players with an MLB profile.
Those types in your system can be useful trade pieces.
Crawford and Miller both doing their thing. A trip out to Jersey Shore might be forth coming for me. If Miller keeps with this trajectory I’d place a bet he’s there mid to late May.

De La Cruz too, which is slightly more disappointing because he was in major league camp for awhile and the org thinks he could be something. Either way though, like you said, its super early. Lets hope they all pick it up going forward. Also, with prospects you never know if they are being instructed to try something new that could impact statistics.

I wouldn’t hold my breath on CDL. He was available in the rule 5 draft and nobody selected him.

CDLC probably expected to be at Lehigh Valley this year after his 2023 season. Sometimes players let disappointment affect their play.

DMAR…I think even if Miller still rakes early on…they will wait until mid-July after all-star breaks for the minor leagues teams..

This is Bergolla’s age-19-season in a league where position players average age is 22.2 and pitchers is 23.1. He’s one of the youngest players in the league and hitting around .250 so I’m not worried about him. The hype around Rincon caught me by surprise. I didn’t know if it was warranted. But, he only turned 20 a couple months ago so the age thing could also be used in his defense. However, .071 is a little worrisome even ten games into the season. So, I’m a little less “not worried” about him.
You’re spot on with Crawford and Miller. Mattingly likes to promote aggressively, his staff not so much. He does listen to his people though so it will be interesting to see when all our young guys start moving up.

Agreed on Bergolla. IMO with a prospect, I really discount any first half struggles. I really want to see progression at the level as the year goes on. Especially if they are really young for the level.

After the 2015-17 Johnny Almaraz fiasco of 3 wasted top 10 picks, the Phillies’ last six first round picks have been extremely good on the whole:
Alec Bohm – not a star but a near first division regular, perfectly decent pick.
Bryson Stott – solid first division regular, potential occasional all-star – very, very good pick.
Mick Abel – still developing, but this is still a very defensible pick, even if he turns out to be a solid 3.
Andrew Painter – hopefully will recover, and if he does (I don’t see why he won’t), he could easily be the best pick of that draft and has the potential to be a generational talent. His ceiling is the HOF. Seriously. Stupendous pick.
Justin Crawford – Was always at least a good pick but if his progress continues this could be an excellent pick and he could be your CF for 10 years.
Aidan Miller – Great value pick for their draft slot – Bohm’s likely successor and potential all-star and first division regular – so far is doing exactly what he should.

Don’t underestimate their 5th round selections…the last 9 years have been pretty amazing for that late of a pick…..

The Phillies’ recent 1st round picks have been solid. They didn’t reach for anybody and the hit rate (so far) has been really impressive. It has to be top 3 in baseball for this time frame.

This is not the place to continue your attacks on Almaraz and the draft. Take it to the other thread. Better yet, leave his name out of it unless you know what it is like in the draft room, know who he has stumped for over those years, know who made the ultimate decision on each pick, … Unless you know what went on, you don’t know what went on.

Miller reminds me a lot of Ryan Braun. He has some serious opposite field power for a 20 year old.

Interesting comp. similar body types. obviously that would be a dream outcome.

what really impresses me about Miller is how Balanced he looks at the Plate. His lower half is really quiet. I remember that was the first thing that stood out for me for Buster Posey.

Could be a Trout clone in the making…Sam Dykstra of MLB.com thinks he can be a 30 HR guy…this year. IMO, more like 20, their season is not long enough.
