No weather report today.  We arrived at the Complex a little later than usual.  We missed some of the workouts by some position players.  But we were amply rewarded with bullpens!

Pitchers went through their normal workout regimen in their groups on Ashburn Field.  Then the proceeded to the 3-pack of mounds between Ashburn and Schmidt Fields.

We watched Andrew Baker and Tyler McKay throw their bullpens first.  Mick Abel and Samuel Aldegheri were second.   I lost count but I would estimate they were on 25-pitch counts.  Their velocity seemed to be at 100% which alarmed me on the first day of throwing.  I was reminded that most of these guys have been throwing for weeks on their own at places like Cressy or on their own.

All four were impressive.  McKay in particular looked very good throwing in front of his family and fiancé who arrived just before he started.  I had tagged him as a pitcher who might surprise us in the comments section of another article in answer to a question.  I wish I had hit send before heading to the Complex.

The rest of the pitchers who threw today did so at a 9-square which is a target with 9 pockets arranged in 3 rows of three.  The idea is to put a ball in each pocket without aiming.  It looked a little frustrating as a ball in the pocket of the top row would hang down and obstruct the pocket below.  Those taking part included Rao, Cabrera, Pan, Chenault, Mayer, Brown, Eddington, Klassen, Steward, Beckel, and Hernandez.

The position players gathered on Carlton Field in their groups and went through the same things they have in previous days – warmup, bands, throwing, before ending with ground balls from close range.  Outfielders took fly balls off a machine.  Catchers went through framing drills behind the fence on the seven mounds.

That’s 70 players at the Complex during the High-Performance Camp.  Some guys are here on rehab and not participating in the camp.  I’m not going to say for sure who is and isn’t on the rehab list.  Obviously, we are all pretty sure that Painter is, but since I can’t watch every player’s action for every moment they are on the field, I am not going to speculate.
