What, We Worry?

Apologies for borrowing and paraphrasing the tag line of Mad Magazine’s Alfred E. Neuman.

Should WE worry?  Maybe.  Relievers are flying off the board.  We have heard reports that the Phillies are interested in all who have signed so far.  But, in the end, the pitchers take better offers than the Phillies have been willing to match or surpass. Continue reading What, We Worry?

A New Season, January 23, 2024

Just a short update.  I avoided the Complex last week during Phantasy Week.  I went one day last year, shook too many hands, and came down with COVID two days later.  The COVID experience wasn’t too bad, just a day of flu-like symptoms.  But I had to avoid my wife until I tested negative.  Her white count was low due to medication. Phillies Sign Kolby Allard

The Phillies announced the signing of LHP Kolby Allard.  He received a split contract that will pay him about $325K in the minors and $1M plus incentives on the major league active roster.  He supposedly has one option left.  I am doubtful. Continue reading Phillies Sign Kolby Allard

2023 Season in Review via Transactions

This is a little exercise I went through to satisfy my curiosity regarding the timing of free agent signings and trades.  We all think the Phillies are going to acquire some more players.  Heck, they have two openings on the 40-man roster.  I wanted to allay my worries about more signings this year.  Turns out that the Phillies were pretty much done the first week of January last year with the signing of Craig Kimbrel on the fourth and a trade for Gregory Soto and Kody Clemens on the seventh.  Later the Phillies signed Josh Harrison (1/30), Cristian Pache (3/29), and Jeff Hoffman (3/31). The 2024 International Signing Period opened on Monday, January 15th.  It will remain open until December 15th.  As most of us are aware, organizations have had agreements with these players for as long as two years.  Monday was the day the signings could be announced and were made official. A New Season, January 12, 2024

No weather report today.  We arrived at the Complex a little later than usual.  We missed some of the workouts by some position players.  But we were amply rewarded with bullpens! Continue reading A New Season, January 12, 2024

Phillies Discussion

Well, here we are in January, and we are once again waiting for the premier free agents to sign and break the log jam of signings.  Yamamoto’s signing with the Dodgers has done little to free up the market. Continue reading Phillies Discussion
