Late last night, rumors started to swirl regarding a Johan Rojas promotion to the big club. Finally, a few minutes ago, one of the beat writers confirmed the move (Gelb) on Twitter.
It was also reported that Rojas will fill Cristian Pache’s role on the team. Pache is expected to be placed on the 60-man IL as the partnering move.
In other news, it was also hinted that another promotion is expected (Drew Ellis) to replace the injured Josh Harrison who went on the 10-day IL yesterday.
10 day or 60 day for Pache?

10 day, Rojas was already on the 40

If Pache goes on the 60 day IL then Kingery could be added. Drew Ellis is not better than Kingery and is not able to play as many position also not as fast.

Awesome. I can’t wait to see him. Hopefully he isn’t over matched.

Maybe he will hit homeruns, have a low batting average, bad fielder and a slow runner. Wait that would make him a major league.

and a premier lead-off hitter to boot.

Unfortunate(?) that they were not able to backdate Pache’s injury to before the All star break.

I’ve been intrigued by Rojas for a while, but wonder whether he is being showcased for a trade.
LikeLike
That would be quite a gamble. He’s having his best offensive season in AA right now. If he plays in the majors and really struggles, that can only hurt his trade value.
They need a RH-hitting OF and Rojas is the only one they have on the 40-man roster. Don’t think there is anything more to it than that.

I agree, Rojas is up because he’s RH like Pache. Otherwise, there’s no reason not to promote Muzziotti if they needed an OF.

Or Jake Cave

I like Rojas as well! He is not being showcased for a trade. This move is being made because Cristain Pache is being added to the IL with an arm irritation.

Robin, that was the question that first came to my mind.

Just found out PP is back. Thank you to Bill S for the heads up.
Jim … very happy for the health news on your rebound from COVID, and especially the outcome of your wife’s battle with cancer. I’ve mentioned before my wife went thru the same thing. It is an absolute battle (both physically, mentally, & emotionally). Happy to report Mrs. Hinkie is now 12 years cancer free, and just retired (as Officer Of The Year) from a 25 year law enforcement career.
I’ve been a big believer in Johan Rojas since he was in Williamsport. He was getting Victor Robles comps for GG caliber defense back in 2019. I’ve always seen him with Juan Samuel offensive tools. Great to see him break out at AA this year (especially after a slow start). Having said all that … gotta believe Rojas is Dave Dombrowski’s #1/most realistic trade chip this summer with the emergence of (RHH CFer) Cristian Pache. Not sure what the Phillies POBO will be shopping for, but has to get back more than a rental for Rojas if he deals him.

Good to see the site back, better to hear the good health news for you and your wife Jim. There is nothing like a clean bill of health. As I age, I’m finding out the importance of youth as well.
So is this the section to point out all the things I was right about, and ignore what I was wrong about? 🙂 jk, I’ll be serving up those crow burgers with a smile! All one of them.
Let’s go Phils & their farm system – it’s trade deadline season, so this is the most nervous time of the year – I’m expecting to see many prospects go that I don’t want to for another Shot at the WS. Improbable or not, I feel like they are going to roll the dice. At least Aiden Miller is safe. Feels like a freaking STEAL

Rumors perculating and circulating AJ Preller could be listening to offers for Juan Soto since he has yet to sign any extension.
Soto will probably be a $28M/$29M arb 4 contract player next year.
Dave Dombrowsk, i I am sure will kick the tires on any Soto rumor, if there is any truth in it
And AJ Preller loves to trade… a mover and shake among GMS.
I would think he would want to start, Painter or Abel to kick it off, then maybe someone like Stott, then an OFer like Johan Rojas.

To go along with what you are saying I think it would be great to have Juan Soto in Philadelphia. He would be a really good addition to the Phillies lineup. I hope the Phillies get him!

It probably will never happen.
Too many dominoes would have to fall before that comes to fruition.
And just to add another mega-contract would take some doing.
Further, Boras after 2024, will probably want another Harperesue contract….length and $$$$.
Though these days, Boras seems to have a friend in John Middleton.

I know it will probably never happen, but wouldn’t it be cool if it did happen though? Then the Phillies could have another power bat in their lineup. I would really like to see Soto come to the Phillies!

It would be, after all….a touch of Washington Nationals north…Harper, Turner and Soto all in the lineup again together.
Fun to dream on…thats about it..

I will look into your blog. And if I can make a suggestion.
Many women these days are really getting into baseball….especially the analytical side. Which in the past was normally male dominated, and probably still is for the most part.
But if that is what you feel is your calling, you may want to contact the Phillies. Specifically, Corinne Landrey.
She is now a Director, Baseball Operations for them.
Her passion is Phillies baseball, instilled into her from her grandfather when she was a youngster. He took her to many games.
After college, she taught in the Delaware school system,
but the flame never went out or dimmed for her Phillies.
Then she began doing analytical work on blogs….like Crashburn Alley, then later went to Baseball Prospectus. Her analytical work was outstanding and was easily read..
Phillies eventually hired her and she moved right on up…..all of this within the last 10 years. So if you get the chance, you may write to her, via the Phillies, and discuss your passion.
Philadelphia Phillies…..CBP, One Citizens Bank Way. Phila PA 19148
And get her perspective and possibly make a connection.
Good luck.

Also, thanks Hinkie for your wife’s service and so glad to hear of her cancer success.
Let the 2nd half begin.
Romus… think I will just make a quick summary of info I wanted to give you.
Highlight was kid being listed ahead of Max Clark in hitting and OBP for a few weeks in Max Preps for the State of Indiana leaders. I took some pics so I was pretty pleased.
He ended season at .459 BA, and 600 OBP. Pretty good for Soph.

Don……sounds great. Grandson may have his name called right there on draft day in a few years. My neighbor’s son was drafted by the Astros in the 6th round…he is a RHP out of Towson College, MD. Headed down to West Palm Beach , Florida soon.

Don….the philosphy in the game has evolved thru the years. Kids are for sure more athletic on a whole than in the distant past, and they have all the necessary devices to increase their skill levels….batting cages with hi-tech equipment, and pitching devices also to measure theuir progress. Camps and traveling teams, and then there are the 20K or 30K square foot facilities with indoor mini-fields.
OTOH, are the kids having fun….not sure about that anymore.

First off – thanks again to Jim for this site. Hopefully he is feeling stronger and he will see an upward health trajectory from here. Good wishes and happy scootering ! And thanks for returning !
Meanwhile – its nice to see some of these old names pop up. I also felt that DD would use Rojas as his most worthwhile trading piece but now – with the backdrop of seeing him play his first two games – would he be trading Lonnie Smith all over again ? Rojas is all about athleticism ! From no CF to Marsh, Rojas, Pache, and Crawford at CLearwater the team has a wealth of speedy CF. Something may give after all.

Rojas showed us a lot about who he is as a player in yesterday’s doubleheader. An elite defensive play that saved at least 1 run and the bunt single along with two other not well hit but effective singles. A year ago Hinkie was pleading with the Phillies to trade for Kevin Kiermaier. Well, I think that we have a similar type player in Rojas.
LikeLike
v1, I have even higher hopes for Rojas. His D is elite, and with his speed, if he can hit a bit he can be better than Kiermaier. He has already made 2 really good plays today. Not yesterday’s highlight reel play, but really good!

Wonderful news about your wife!!! It’s great to have you and the PP site back in action.
Rojas is a very special talent. To their credit, the current development staff have been very patient with him. His exceptional play yesterday shows why he should be a “keeper” rather than “trade bait”.
Welcome back to all PP posters. Your comments and insights have been missed.

I wonder if the phillies, Give Crawford a shot at Jersey Shore ?

IMO, he will get a taste of it before the season is out.
Phillies do it quite a lot..not new.
They will give him a little taste of Hi-A pitching and get a little familiar with the Lakewood area.
Most MLB teams do promote their top prospects to the next level for that brief indctrination prior to the next season.

Just realized……..will they let him play in the play-offs that the Threshers will be in at their season’;s conclusion.
Jersey Shore’s schedule goes thru Sep 10th…but Threshers best- of- three play-offs start Sep 12th….so the Phillies may elect Crawford to play in the play-offs.

EE5, you make a totally awesome point! One would hope the Phillies would always be reviewing how their top prospects joined the organization; via international signing, regular draft….. along with the resources each method took. How else do you know where to focus your efforts and resources?
