Does anyone have a real scouting report on Tommy McCollum? His numbers in high A ball last year were mind blowing – crazy-low hit per 9 and crazy-high Ks per 9. I love how the new organization is focused on, and finds, really good arms. They are certainly showing they know how to coach these guys up. A soft tosser here and there is fine, but you want guys with excellent Fbs and plain old nasty stuff.

McCollum: RHP, 6’5″, 260 lbs, 2021 NDFA, Wingate University
Walks were a problem in college, but he walked just 16 in 23 G/31 IP in 2022 with Clearwater. Shut down on 6/30 with an ankle injury.
MId-to-upper 90s FB with a sharp slider and a drop-off-the-table splitter that could be plus pitches. Great movement on each pitch. Splitter is already an outpitch. Velo: FB (94-97, t98 ), splitter (83-88), slider (82-87)
Possible high-leverage reliever. Potential for a rapid rise up the affiliate ladder in 2023. Likely opens the season in the BlueClaws bullpen.

Nice!! Thanks, Jim! Happy holidays!!! Another great arm found by the Phillies. Damn they are getting so good with the pitchers.

And how do we know this with confidence at the moment…??

Because we follow the team, read statistics carefully (and, more importantly, follow the progression of these statistics), get positive scouting reports (and I have actually watched our top pitchers pitch – quite a bit actually) and see how much potential these pitchers have and have also improved. Yes, I am very confident they are doing well with pitchers. Very.
Exactly who will become a star, who will become a solid contributor and who will fair is harder to gauge (just as it always is with prospects), but we know there is a ton of potential there. It would be shocking if several of these pitchers did not become really good major leaguers.

I meant to type “who will fail” – not “fair”

Went with Mari Boyd…..Mookie Betts ceiling! 🙂

I like him too. From initial appearances, that was a great pick in the 11th round and might have even been a great pick in the second round.

For me I pretty much consider Alex McFarlane, Emaarion Boyd, Nikau Pouaka-Grego, and Rickardo Perez all about similar level of a prospect at this stage. I am excited for 2023 for each of them. Perez has the potential to become the next BCIB. The others intrigue me greatly and could put themselves on the radar next year.
