We’ll begin today with the Readers’ Top Thirty vote for the #6 prospect.

The final results –
Justin Crawford: 46 votes, 61.3%

Andrew Baker: 4 votes, 5.3%
Michael Plassmeyer: 2 votes, 2.7%

Because of the limited number of votes allowed (the app calls them signals and limits us to 2500) I’ll be closing polls when a clear victor can be determined.
So, why is Jim running two polls a day? Selfishly, I want to have the polling process completed by early January and I don’t want to be bothered with the polls on the weekend. Why again? Well, the holidays are upon us and I have some non-baseball stuff to deal with. Plus, the Eagles. I find American football is consuming a lot of my Sundays. Now, they are having a triple header Saturday. Oh my! Why early January? Last year, the Phillies held a strength and conditioning camp in January and a minicamp after Phantasy camp. The Phillies liked the idea of the minicamp. I hope they do both again this year. I want to be ready if they do. So, just in case, I want to be done with the polls by then.
Crawford’s spot in the poll will be filled by Jhailyn Ortiz.

Yu is the solid choice here but Bergolla has just as much upside, maybe more if he can stay at SS and Yu goes to 2B. Miller probably becoming a RP decreases his upside.

Agree with you Murray. Bergolla is fascinating (and I am in on him in a big way) and a guy to watch, but Lee has earned his way to this ranking.

I have a hard time rating guys who have yet to play even a-ball. Bergolla had terrific numbers but can’t really compare competition.

Right – which is why I have him 15 or so, not like 6 or 7. It’s also why I am holding judgment on Crawford – we have no idea yet what he is or will become.

I went Baker, slightly, based on proximity to the Majors. I think we see him this season. Lee Hao Yu next

I can understand your thinking. The MLB prospect rankings are nutty after the top 6 or 7. Crouse should not be in the top 30. I think he’s cooked. Baker is listed at 30 and should probably be in or around the top 15.

Martin is probably a questionable top thirty too.

Absolutely. He was wretched. I think he just can’t hit professional pitching. He barely hit college pitching. I know he was a toolsy, high risk/high reward player and you don’t hit on most of those guys. But, recently, we haven’t hit on ANY of those guys – at least the position players. It’s been an odd dichotomy between the pitchers and hitters with this group of talent evaluators. They are killing it with the pitchers and just entirely missing with the hitters – in a brutal way. Perhaps Crawford will signal an end to that run, but who knows what we will get from him? I was on record as not liking the pick at all (hmmm, Phillies historical failed draft picks – plenty of toolsy high school outfielders to choose from). I hope he proves me wrong.

I went with Lee also. Both Bergolla and Perez had good seasons with significant upside at key positions and had my consideration. If de la Cruz has a second season like 2022, he shoots way up in my book.

The A’s sold Lefty Grove, Mickey Cochrane and others. Back when Rocco and I were in High School, about 1930!

Yeah, it was the day of the stock market crash of 1929 and the start of the Great Depression. Some of us here lost family fortunes.

It was the day Connie Mack (of the A’s) sold several of his key players.

I went with Lee Hao Yu here, injury last year probably kept him from being higher.
