Baseball Prospectus Top 10 Phillies Prospects

I am a big fan of the Baseball Prospectus Top 10 prospects.  Right now the prospect team assembled there is really talented and have been able to get a lot of eyes on a lot of players.  This leads to reports that are some of the most detailed outside of major league front offices.  The Phillies list itself is posted here.

 Top 10:

  1. Maikel Franco
  2. Jesse Biddle
  3. J.P. Crawford
  4. Kelly Dugan
  5. Carlos Tocci
  6. Deivi Grullon
  7. Severino Gonzalez
  8. Cesar Hernandez
  9. Yoel Mecias
  10. Cord Sandberg

Prospects on the Rise:
Gabriel Lino
Dylan Cozens
Zach Greene

Factors on the Farm (2014 Contributors):
Tommy Joseph
Ken Giles
Ethan Martin

There is a Top 10 under 25, but we will let that stay behind the pay wall because Jeff Moore’s break down really puts it all into context.

      1. This is the same as on our 4 to 10. There is no one who jumps up and claims the spot. They are of equal ability or we haven’t yet seen their ability. It will be fun to see who does breakout and show his mettle.

    1. Yeah, my Lord, some serious Grullon love. Seriously, the depth in the system at catcher and third is breathtaking. What I love about depth at third is that, most decent third basemen can, if blocked, move across the diamond to first or man a corner outfield spot.

          1. He currently sits at 6’3″ and 210 lbs, of muscle….in a few years he could be 220 lbs…not sure he would have the flexibility to make the pivot at second by then. He however, would be one of the bigger second baseman in the league.

  1. There is my boy Dugan getting some love again. I’m expecting a big season from him. I’m thinking he improves on those 20 homers from last year and adds 5 more to that total.

  2. In what way is Lino a prospect on the rise? But I think their top 10 is interesting and I especially like Grullon. I don’t think I’d have him at 6 but he’s definitely the best catcher prospect in the system

  3. In the comments, Jason Parks says he’s not high of Quinn because of the injury. Seems to be the first list to really knock Quinn for that reason. I was expecting that from everyone.

  4. Wish it wasn’t behind a paywall, I’m not a Roto person so it’s hard to justify buying a subscription for the couple times a year they do something major on Phillies prospects. Anyone who’s got a subscription willing to give one sentence summaries of what he has to say about these guys? I think that’s easily within the bounds of fair use.

  5. Man, after the top 3 and Tocci the professional lists are all over the place.

I think that shows just how little separation there is at 6-20 in the system. It’s pick your favorite sleeper.

Here’s hoping a few of them break out, and the top 10 will be easy to make a year from now.

  6. Deivi Grullon makes as much sense as anyone, to be placed in the top 10. I think he was underrated in the PP fan poll.
