    1. I think I trust these guys more than us. Joseph is still reasonably well regarded as a prospect if he can have a full healthy year and severino has major league stuff and has had a ton of success. He’ll never be a top but easily could be a number 4 starter and he is in an upper level

  2. It’s fascinating looking at 1 persons list compared to others. I mean that in a good way. For instance, Fangraphs is way higher on Sev than anybody else that I’ve seen. Obviously , he believes in the numbers more than most of us.

  3. Biddle has a “high ceiling,” Franco reminds him of a young Edwin Encarnacion, and Crawford could be a “four tool star”. I’d say this sounds like the best assessment yet for all three of these guys, but it definitely makes me wonder if he’s a glass-half-full type of guy.

    1. … but then in the comments he says the sees the system as ranking somewhere in the 15-22 range, which means he sees it as being below-average. So, it seems like those above assessments are just absolute best-case scenarios, not projections.

      1. But even as we ourselves have been putting together the Reader Top 30, just about everyone has conceded a huge fall off after the top 3. I haven’t seen anyone list any of our prospects in their top 15 and many teams will have a top 4 or top 5 who compare very favorably to the guys in our top 3.

  4. Other than being too kind to the seriously injured, I like this list. I’d boot some of the injured lower and add Grullon and Zach Green, but this is a sound list. I am not sure why MAG is so high, while Encarnacion totally misses the top 15. We have zilch pro experience on both of them to go along with some good scouting reports. MAG is our first Cuban signing, but Encarnacion is our biggest international bonus in a long, long time.

      1. Bigger then the two Korean pitchers..Park Lee Seung or something like that, a decade ago for a milliom or so?

The one Korean still holds the bonus record, but that was a pair of ridiculous signings, which had the Phillies actually commenting upon their arrival stateside that they didn’t look like the guys they had signed. I’ve always suspected that there was more than a tad of fraud in these signings, not sure on whose part.

  5. Andrew Pullin. Looks like he can stick at second. Scouts like his hit tool. Has shown a low strikeout rate and gap power. Main problem is low BB rate and maybe lack of projection, especially power. More of a line drive swing.

  6. I actually like this ranking as well. Sev to me has an outside shot as a 3 with a floor as a 5 and a projection as a 4. Not only that but he’s extremely young for such a high floor. Glad to see that some of the pros don’t buy into the whole “he doesn’t physically look the part so he couldn’t possibly be legit” philosophy.

        As to a regression, his performance last year was extraordinary, if he doesn’t regress he’ll make top 100 lists. So yes I think he’ll regress. That said, I don’t think he’ll regress enough to change his prospect status. If that’s what you’re claiming, I hope you end up eating sh*t. 🙂

        1. “whippy” not “wimpy” – I think the idea with a whippy delivery is that there is concern that the player is generating speed unduly with his arm is, not sufficiently incorporating his body. All of this might suggest that the velocity is not sustainable over time or that the player may be more susceptible to injuries. Bob, am I right?
