Hot or Not

A look back at the past week from July 27–August 2. Minimum of 11 AB’s.

Quick hits before we get started: Cody Ascheseems to have adjusted to AA and is starting to put up numbers ,while 16 year old Carlos Tocci makes the hot list for the first time.

–Rough week for Larry Greene, who took an 0-6 last night.

–Hoby Milner and Kevin Brady make their initial appearances on the hot starter list, while Cloyd and Morgan continue making their near weekly appearances.

–Outstanding week from the CLearwater bullpen (Neris, Murray, Nesseth, GIles), while Kyle Simon, who was promoted to Reading this week continues to throw very well out of the ‘pen.

–Aumont seems to be back on track and it is very nice to see Justin DeFratus on the hot reliever list.  He could be very useful for the Phils next year.

    1. Musser’s problem is rhythm. Never really gets into one. He’ll have a 1-2-3 inning then get blown up the next. He’s also still very young so good chance he’ll be back in Williamsport next year.

  1. Glad too Cody Asche making the needed adjustment in Reading… Maybe he is the Phil’s future answer to the 3rd base issue..

    1. I’m endlessly optimistic about Asche, so keep that in mind. He’s looking like he could be a solid 3rd baseman type. No superstar, not even an All Star but a solid, cost controlled option moving forward. Then again, he could surprise and be a bit better than that, but he looks like exactly what the Phillies need.

  2. Didn’t Asche play second last year? Now that Cesar is in Lehigh maybe they should try him at second. His bat would be great to have out of a second baseman.

  3. A few comments from Jim Callis Chat: 1) Rich (NJ): Is Joseph ahead of Valle at this point in the Phils fuiture plans?
Jim Callis: I’d rank Joseph as the Phillies’ top prospect, so in my mind, he should be.
    2) Matt (NJ): gut call: Any phillies in the top 100 next spring?
Jim Callis: Tommy Joseph is the closest thing to a lock, and I’m not sure he’s a lock.
    3) Matt (NJ): Thoughts on Cody Asche?
Jim Callis: Good lefthanded power, solid bat, gets the job done defensively. Chance to be a big league regular.
He also rated the top ten prospects moved at the deadline and had Joseph #4 and Martin #8

  4. Justin DeFratus can be useful THIS year. Both he and Aumont need to be on the big club ASAP. With the luxury tax issues, low cost guys like them are almost mandatory. Plus it’s time for Aumont to see what he can do with the big boys.
