Manaure Martinez had himself a nice double-header mandated 7 inning CG – 1 run, 8ks. Take a look at him, and you may think like me that he’s someone to keep an eye on. In the other GCL game, Mitch Gueller made his debut. 2 scoreless with 2 ks. Cool.

DSL 2012 Midseason Update
This year’s DSL Phillies are off to a good start with a 16-13 record in their first 29 games, good for a share of 2nd place 4.0 games behind the Yankees in the BC South division. While this year’s Phillies team has no known high bonus players on their roster, they are holding their own with a mostly age appropriate roster. The average age on offense is 18.7 (compared to the league average of 18.5) and on defense is 19.0 (compared to the league average of 18.9).
The Phillies recently made 5 additional Latin American signings including 2 high profile Dominican players. OF Jose Pujols is a power hitter out of the Domingo Santana mold ($540K) and C Deivi Grullon ($575K) is a catcher with a strong arm and other tools. Look for both Pujols and Grullon to make their debut next year either at GCL or in the DSL, depending on how their offseason development progresses. Continue reading DSL 2012 Midseason Update

Certainly some conversation starters between Aumont/Bonilla/Duke/Knigge. Have at it.
Lehigh Valley
Phillipe Aumont, 23, Acquired from Seattle in 2009; 24 games; 2-1 with a 4.15 ERA; 10 saves; 26IP 18H 23BB 37K; 2 HR allowed; 1.56 GO/AO; .189 opp. avg., 1.57 WHIP; 8.0BB/12.8K per nine; .222 vs. LH, .169 vs. RH, .211 with RISP. Since June 1: 1-0 with a 3.21 ERA in 12 games; 6 saves. Aumont struggled mightily in May with injuries and his command. He has been better as of late but stills needs more work. When he is on, he is filthy. Continue reading Around the System, Bullpen, Top Half

I note that 17 yr old Sergio Velis pitched out of the VSL bullpen today after several weeks away. Not so great numbers, but nice to see the young man back in action after what seems like it was time off for injury. If you can confirm whether this was injury related, you are probably deep inside Venezuela, and should come home, lest ye get ye-self kidnapped. Continue reading Box Score Recap 7-5-2012
The Major-Minor Bullpen: Discussion
An open discussion for anyone regarding how the boys have been doing in the big leagues. Is this exactly what you expected? Did you think Joe would be better? Did you think Schwim would be better?
Is it hard to judge these guys based off of a few months of work, or is this their future?
Box Score Recap 7-4-2012
Perci Garner with a nice outing. Inconsistent this year, walking way too many guys. But he’s put together some nice outings in between the very bad ones. Anyone have velocity reports on him lately?
Hot or Not
Happy 4th and another week in the books. Observations:
–The Lakewood lineup has taken it up a notch over the last couple weeks, most notably Aaron ALtherr who has put together several consecutive very good weeks.
–Leandro Castro is working towards a call up to Lehigh Valley to finish the season. He is well above .300 on the season now, and after a miserable April, has reallu started swinging the bat well.
–The transition of Harold Martinez to High A has been less than smooth and he has seen limited playing time as of late.
–Very nice to see conseuctive very goos starts by Brody Colvin who may be coming out of his season long funk. Nice numbers by Josh Warner and Tyler CLoyd just keeps rolling along.
–Phillippe Aumont was simply nasty in his outings this week, while Joe Savery was just the opposite.
Hot Hitters: Tug Hulett (.474, 6R, HR 5RBI); W.
