He made the catch, and it looked good, and he no doubt planned it. But he misses that, and everyone will be all over him for fundamentals, and about cutting off angles for it to bounce.
I don’t know, maybe the bases were loaded and he needed an out ball. I just want to point out how negative this play could have been.
I think 90% of MLB outfielders who got to that ball would’ve done the same thing as Domonic did. Especially the ones already on our team at the MLB level.
There really was no downside to him trying to make that particular catch. He made it, which ended the inning and he got to feel good about himself. If he missed it, the CF was right there to get it on a bounce.
That was a double off of the bat. He took a good route and there was no way for him to get behind the ball. Remember route running is a skill that can be honed. AS with any skill some are naturals and some are not. Hell Victorino won 2 GG awards and he is not the greatest route runner in the world. Great athletes with speed can makeup for bad routes. My only concern is a report from Anthony Gargano from a few months back that the organization is concerned that he will hurt himself with his fielding, particularly when he dives. And it appears that is how his knee was re injured. I know it is completely possible we have correlation without causation, but an interesting report that stuck out in my head. Another thing from Gargano (the only reason i give his reports credence is because he constantly talks to Charlie, so this is sort of an insight to Charlies opinions) is that Brown will not be up to help the Phillies contend. this means they have to be out of it before they call him up. Gargano said this Thursday.
HS Football Wide Receiver – recruited to U. of Miami. That’s the kind of catch a Wide Receiver would make.. D. Brown is made for that kind of catch. Let’s see some stuff more up in the air and at difficult angles. Looks like he’s doing all right though. Should get another MLB look , shortly. Maybe in LF at Miller Park.
Another week or so of healthy baseball for him and he will probably get a call up.

Of course, if he lets it drop, there’s going to be negativity too. No one ever wins in baseball on tough plays.

“is that Brown will not be up to help the Phillies contend”
I think we already kinda knew that given Charlie’s previous handlings of Dom.

It kind of makes you think that he is thinking too much out there and he is fine when it is all just instincts.

That’s been my impression of Dom’s fielding as well.
