  1. Just wanted to say thanks for doing this every day, bradindc. You’re doing a great job.

Why did Asche go 0-5?? Maybe the BABIP monster got him. Or maybe it was because he had no protection in the lineup.

Nice to see Wright with a bounceback start – 10 GBs, 2 FBs.

I hope Velis did not get hurt.

    1. I was a little concerned about Velis too. I checked the recap and he was not having a good 3rd inning so maybe they pulled him befre he went into meltdown. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

It’s nice to see the new young guys Michael Martinez and Thome have 3 hit games. Where do we put them in our top 30?

I wonder if that DSL pitcher’s name is pronounced Sir-Anthony? If he pitches well, that’s what I’m going to call him.

      1. Def going with Sir Anthony from here on out…that’s how I read it too (with a British accent no less)!

      1. I think you missed my joke. Lineup protection is a fallacy and this is one example thereof.

        1. Don’t think 1 game is an example that either proves or disproves the concept of line-up protection..

          1. No, but multiple studies all indicate the same thing (that it does not exist). Still, people will believe what they want. As for Asche, I would have been a bit worried had he struck out twice or more while going 0fer, but the fact that he put the ball in play every at bat screams BABIP to me.

  2. The thing that jumps out at me is another splendid line for Zach Collier. Realize we’ve still got the small sample size issue–let’s call it the Brian Pointer effect–but it’s really nice to see him come out of the gate fast after the injuries/suspension.

Austin Wright’s strikeout numbers seem to have dropped from the eye-popping rates of the early season, but he’s still getting it done. Wonder if we could see him in Reading soon.

    1. I don’t think there was much pressure to go for Ks in this game. Maybe a good time to practice pitching to contact. Alonzo only had one hit . So their two best hitters went 1fer10 amazing. MM is vulnerable to be removed from the 40.

  3. Collier’s numbers make me wonder if he’s still on the juice (hey, somebody had to say it)

  4. Maybe the amphetamines.were holding him back. The coordination needed to play pro ball is easly disturbed.

    1. Or maybe he took some accidental over the counter supplement that had nothing at all to do with his performance (or character).

      1. well, here’s hoping he just took a few too many sudafeds the night before his drug test, and is clean. Or it could just be a 21 year old kid making a mistake. Hell, I know I did a lot of stupid stuff when I was that age.

I seem to recall reading about one NFL player who used to drink three pots of coffee before a game for the rush it gave him. That to me seems like it should be banned

        1. Good thing his team colors had combination with green pants. Mark Schelreth (sp) let it go from what he said as a Bronco linemen.

  5. I’m really big on Austin Wright. The only change I see in his numbers is his BB/9 has creeped up a bit thus his WHIP is up. More patient hitters will lower your strikeout rate (but its still 8.8/9) a very healthy figure showing he has swing and miss type stuff.

We’ll see What happens. Adam Morgan is also very impressive. Love that he has a Sub 1.20 WHIP and his K/9 currently sits at 10.2. So while Jesse is still the Prize of the system at age 20 both of these guys are 22 and good see the rotation sooner rather than later especially if Cole walks.

    1. Yeah, those two are really managing their promotions well. Especially Morgan, which was a double jump, (though Morgan didn’t spend a ton of time at LKW). Morgan was a high pick, so it should not be a surprise to see him succeeding. Just like Asche, he didn’t have a great year last year, but those short season leagues for college guys are their first taste of pro ball just like for anyone else, and I think we sometimes overvalue the bad stints there. I know I did with Morgan especially. I was not expecting K numbers like his.

    2. I know it was implied but I wanted to spell it out. Each of these guys is a lefty. That’s what I’m really excited about. In fact, if you throw in Mario Hollands, 4 out of the 5 starters at CLW right now are southpaws.

  6. Kinda off-topic, but as long as we’re talking about Clearwater, if you guys have 5 minutes I’d really appreciate some votes for their mascot Phinley in the Mascot Mania tournament! Go to http://www.milb.com/mascotmania and help him out. Thanksss

    1. Okay. He got my vote. Are you heading north with the Williamsport guys are you stationed in CLW for the year?

      1. I’m staying in FL all season. You guys will have big bad Mitch Rupert to fill you in on the Cutters though!

    1. We just drafted 3 high round HS pitchers, so probably not. Several new Latin American arms also so GCL should be set.

  7. We probably have more talent left behind for WPort and GCL this year than any year I can recall. Add in to that the earlier signing deadline this year and those teams are going to be very interesting to follow.
I saw Collier in spring training and he looked great, very strong. I talked to him a few years ago and he’s a real nice kid who unfortunately has struggled to get healthy. I’m glad to see him get off to the good start. He can put himself back on the map with a few great months. He’s a kid who looked great a few years back who then struggled and then got hurt. Last year went fair but not good enough. He seems to understand this is his last real chance to show that he’s a legit prospect.

        1. the pitcher was yapping at Frandsen as he grounded out. He told him he was out. Frandsen was not pleased. Dom Brown came up and hit a no doubter. Pimped it the bat flip and put his arms out like a plane as he rounded first base and staring at the pitcher. Kratz was hit, benches cleared.

  8. 2 HR and a 2B, suddenly his line is respectable, it is interesting how narratives can shape a player’s reputation

  9. According to twitter, Brown singled in the bottom of 8.

His final numbers for today’s game look like:
    4-5 2 HR 1 2B 3 R 3 RBI

    1. I am so happy for him. Far from being a quitter or mentally weak, Brown is working hard to remake himself so that when he arrives again, he can stay in the big leagues. Good for him!
