Four from Clearwater Named to All Star Team

Pitchers Jesse Biddle, Adam Morgan, Austin Wright, along with Catcher Cameron Rupp were all named to the FLorida State League All Star Team representing the North Division in the game to be played June 16th.  No time to add much commentary other than to say that the Rupp pick surprises me.  More later.

  1. Agreed, why Rupp? His offensive numbers aren’t that great. Has he been that good defensively?

  2. Quick review – Rupp’s OPS is fifth among qualified catchers in the league, but there’s not much of a spread between 2nd and him (.668 to Rupp’s .634). So if his defense and handling of the staff is exemplary, he could easily outpace the 2nd-4th place guys.

Can someone point me to a good place to find defensive stats by league? Obvs., I am looking for throw out % and PB/WP allowed, and just general stolen base against numbers, or whatever is really out there.

      1. It was explained earlier in another thread. Wrong year to be a 3B in the FSL. Castellanos is hitting .405, with a .463 OBP.
Asch may make it as a replacement, when Castellanos gets promoted.

    1. Yes, mentioned that 6 weeks go and it didn’t go over well with some others on this site. Though, he really isn’t a 3rd baseman, LF or 1st are probably his best defensive positions. Angels are trying to tutor him at 3rd this year.

  4. When does the short season for all the 11 draft picks start? Any word on tocci and where he is? Saw he handled his own in winter ball. Played with all adults and he was is 17?

    1. GCL and the New York-Penn League start 6-18. 2011 and early signing 2012 draftees should be in both leagues. Really looking forward to it. I think I am most interested to see whether Roman Quinn can get himself on base.

  5. Right now I’m watching our 2011 draftee Riley Moore behind the plate for Arizona, seems pretty solid back there.

  6. i was interested in riley moore too, so i look up his stats, he hit 284 with one hr and has 13 errors, thats a lot of errors for a catcher
