Couple of quick notes as we get the weekend started:
First, there has been an excellent response to the call for help and it appears that boxscores will be back early next week, and Philly Jamaal has graciously agreed to keep rosters and transactions up to date. There have been a few volunteers for feature writing which I am sifting through but I wanted to offer up the opportunity one more time before I put the plan in place…Please email me at phuturephillies1@yahoo.com if you have any interest in contributing to the site. I appreciate all the offers and the kind words of support in getting us back on track here.
Now onto baseball:
–The fascination with Brian Pointer has settled down as his average has crept down, plummeting to .239 with 4 K’s last night. Still a guy that deserves attention but an example of what happens when we get too fascinated with a small sample to size.
–Nice outing by Jesse Biddle who appears unaffected by the line drive he took off the arm. 6.2IP 4H 1R 0ER 4BB 8K.
–Not often that you don’t allow a hit and lose, and that is exactly what happened to Trevor May last night. 6.1IP 0H 1ER 4BB 5K. The excitement continues to grow.
–Cant consider a 36 year old a prospect, but Scott Elarton has pitched 16 consecutive scoreless innings for Lehigh Valley after throwing another 6 last evening. Michael Schwimer, back in the Lehigh Valley ‘pen, struck out the side to earn his 3rd save of the season for the ‘Pigs.
—Erik Kratz was optioned back to AAA Lehigh Valley, leading to speculation as to who will fill the Phillies open roster spot tonight. I am thinking Fontenot.
Biddle warming up as the Florida weather gets hotter. If he continues like this for the next 8/10 weeks, maybe Phillies will promote May to LHV under Ryno’s management come August or so.

Maybe it was reported in another thread, but the Phillies traded Scott Posednik to the Red Sox for cash.

Mike Fontenot is now listed on the Phils 40 man roster ,(on their website) and Michael Martinez has been transferred to the 60 day DL

Has DeFratus been transferring to the 60 Day as well? If so, does it mean that surgery is on the horizon? It’s a crying shame—he would have been a big help to the bullpen this season and might have helped to lessen the impact of Stutes’ injury .

Not necessarily; since JDF hasn’t been optioned yet this year (someone can check my work if I’m wrong on this), he could go out on a “rehab assignment” in Lehigh that would last until he’s eligible to be activated from the 60-day DL (should be the end of this month), at which point he could be optioned. They would need to clear a 40-man space for him at that point, though.
Of more concern is the earlier setback. Rotoworld has him out until mid-June at the earliest, which is a shame . . . he’s exactly the young arm the team needs right now.

I think we are going to see May in the pen for the Phillies late in the Summer when his innings start to creep up.

I would be very surprised if that happens.

I doubt it. He is not on the 40 man.

haven’t seen brown or Aumont in a while so I assume both are still hurt.

Nick Hernandez Update: Re: PhoulBallz
‘Lefty pitcher Nick Hernandez is still roughly a month away from facing hitters. The Phils’ 12th round draft pick from 2009 has been out of action for nearly two years. The 6-foot-5-inch 215-pounder underwent surgery on the labrum in his throwing shoulder last season after rehabbing the injury since the previous May with failed results. According to the 23-year-old Hernandez, “I’ve thrown three bullpen sessions already and the ball is feeling good in my hand.” Hernandez, who was a South Atlantic League All-Star with Class A Lakewood in 2010 when he posted a 3-1 record with a 1.61 ERA through 8 starts prior to the injury, is currently on what he describes as a “recovery week”, to build strength, while he exercises with weights. He’ll get back to throwing bullpen sessions twice a week on Monday (14 May)’
