While more limited with time this season, I hope to continue with very regular reports from the AAA level focusing mostly on individual prospect performance rather than a lot of talk on how the team is doing. Look for reports sometime mid week (Tues thru Thur) each week. Additionally, as time allows the “Hot or Not” segments and Organizational positional updates should continue throughout the year. Now, onward.
Lehigh Valley started strong going 4-2 over their first six games of the season, highlighted by Tyler Cloyd’s perfect six innings on opening night. The ‘Pigs return home on Wednesday to open a series against Bryce Harper and the Syracuse Nationals.
Probables: Wednesday: Austin Hyatt; Thursday: Pat Misch; Friday: Tom Cochran; Saturday: Scott Elarton.
Notes: The ‘Pigs 4-1 start was their best start in franchise history.
–The win for Scott Elarton on Monday was his first win since May of 2010. He threw five shutout innings.
–Domonic Brown is hitting .176 thus far this season.
–Jacob Diekman, who was one of the last cuts by the big club earned his first AAA save, striking out the side in the ninth on Monday evening.
–Tyler CLoyd was named IL Pitcher of the Week after throwing six perfect innings on opening night in place of the suspended Dave Bush. He was sent back to AA Reading due to the “numbers game”.
–The members of the team that are on the 40 man roster are Erik Kratz, Phillipe Aumont, Michael Schwimer, Domonic Brown and Jacob Diekman.
–There has been a platoon of catching duties through the early going this season between Kratz and Tuffy Gosewisch.
More detailed info to come next week as the stat lines grow…
Diekman looked good last night, excited to see what he can do going forward.

Keep an eye on Derrick for me. We need his glove here and a couple of hit won’t hurt.

Mitchell has already played all 3 OF spots and looked excellent with the glove.

Do you think he could go back to the infield also?

Anything done by Dobbs is repeatable. Save the wisecracks. I was asking someone who knew.

I know derrick and have known him for a long time. There is obviously no talk of him returning to the infield but if he had the opportunity I can promise you he woulnt disapoint. I think he has out grown his throwing errors and I have never seen someone that shares derricks ability to preempt the ball path. All in all he will stay in center and he will do awesome in that position.

Not a big deal I suppose but Frandsen is still 0-fer the season. Bad bullpen outing today, the 1st time that’s happened. Nice to see that Podsednik played his 1st game today, I’m sure he’s a little rusty after not swinging for a week or so. They faced Ohlendorf who is a legit major league pitcher. Lots of former major leaguers in AAA (and AA) these days. No one should expect Dom to be promoted quickly no matter how he does. The expectation is that the next time he gets promoted will be the last time.

Tough day for Dom, 0-4, but no Ks.

Free Tyler Cloyd! Hopefully with a good start to the season in AA he’ll be back in Lehigh before too long.

Anyone have any idea how Brown is doing in the field? To me, that’s even more important than how he’s doing with the bat, I’m confident he’ll be able to handle the hitting portion. I don’t think he’s committed any errors so far, but taking the wrong route to the ball and missing it isn’t considered an error, something Brown did far too often in the big leagues.

With regards to Brown, is there any reason why he isn’t batting #1 in order to guarantee him as many AB’s as possible while he’s in LHV?? If he’s going to be there they might as well take advantage of the situation. Hitting him in the middle of the order just seems like a fool’s errand.
