An exceptional effort by Nate Bump was wasted on Wednesday evening as Columbus put up four runs in the 8th inning to overcome a 1-0 deficit for a 4-1 win in Game Two of the International League championship series in Columbus. Bump left the game ahead 1-0 with two runners on and one out in the 8th inning, when he gave way to Mike Zagurski who allowed a game tying sac fly, uncorked a wild pitch allowing the go ahead run to score and then allowed a two run single to give Columbus their margin of victory.
The lone run scored by Lehigh Valley was a long homer by Tagg Bozied in the 5th inning, which gave the ‘Pigs a 1-0 lead, a lead that stole until the wheels fell off in the 8th. Columbus starter Mitch Talbot pitched a complete game retiring the final 10 hitters he faced.
Notes: Thompson, Frandsen and Moss all had multi hit games for Lehigh Valley in Game Two.
–Lehigh Valley again struggled with RISP, going 0-4.
–The series continues in Allentown tomorrow with Dave Bush on the mound for Lehigh Valley. As of now, approximately 8000 tickets have been sold for tomorrow evening. Tickets remain available at http://ironpigsbaseball.com.
–Lehigh Valley kept the same lineup as Game One other than Tagg Bozied replacing Cody Overbeck at 1B.
Nice job Jabba Zagurski. At least this should ruin any realistic chance this no-talent-ass-clown has of a September call-up. Savery deserves it much more.

Zagurski’s on the 40-man. I’d be surprised if he wasn’t called up. Not like it matters since it’s only a matter of time until the Phillies clinch home field.

It sure wasn’t pretty. I wonder where Z will be next year. Pitching under pressure is the name of the game.

Surprising they could lose with all the great major league talent on the roster, including many of which are better than current members of the playoff bound Phils…

See other posts – pig fans claiming the greatness of Moss (better than Gload) and Kratz (better than Schneider) and Mathieson (better than Kendrick) and Frandsen (better than Martinez) and Brown (better than Mayberry)…..

I agree with Kratz being better than Schneider but whoever says the other players an upgrade is crazy.

You should probably look at Frandsen and Moss’ major league numbers. They might be slight upgrades but are still terrible players. Not even worth making the roster changes.

I doubt Moss is better than Gload. Gload’s power may be sapped this year but he’s still one of the best pinch hitters in the league.

Martinez is at the Mendoza line—-would not take much to replace him.

They could upgrade over Martinez. I think Schnieder’s better than Kratz. Schnieder could put up those kind of numbers (maybe not the power) in triple a.

Not any more, Schneider looks cooked at the plate. He is however a very good catcher and the Phils have an unbelievable record with him behind the plate.

Yeah I think he’s worth resigning just for that. He seems to handle Worley and Kendrick really well. I wouldn’t want to mess with that. Worley’s come down to Earth a little bit but they’re still a good combination. He calls a good game and isn’t a liability defensively. For a guy who might play 1 or 2 games a week, you could do a lot worse.

Missing person report:
Domonic Brown was once an outstanding prospect for the Philadelphia Phillies. He garnered accolades from such publications as Baseball America, which at oe point identified him as the finest prospect in all of baseball. In his major league debut, Phillies fans, in a rare display of support for a player, gave him a standing ovation. However, after Brown had grounded out in his fifth at-bat, these same fans began to collectively murmur that Brown was a ‘bust’, or a young player who emerged into the big leagues with great promise but who never fulfilled it. It is believed that Brown’s dissappearance occured some time in Philadelphia during the year of 2010. There were vague reports that a group of inebriated Phillies fans brutally gangbeat him after he had misplayed a fly ball in his 15th major league game. Now it is clear that another individual has assumed the name ‘Domonic Brown’, but lacks all resemblance to the former bearer of this name, who thrilled those intellectually stable and sober enough to correctly assess his potential to contribute to the Phillies organization. The current Domonic Brown is baseball-challenged in a way that the older one never was. It is feared that now Ironpigs fans in the northern Pennsylvania town of Allentown, have also erupted into violence against this Brown clone. There are vague reports that they beat him with baseball bats and beer bottles after a doubleheader in which the Brown clone made a poor showing both offensively and defensively. If anyone knows where the real Domonic Brown is, please contact Ruben Amaro Jr. as soon as possible. Mr. Amaro’s baseball team is composed of aging veterans. If anyone is studying sports medicine, following the current group of Phillies should provide an excellent education in all the possible ailments that afflict an athelete: sports hernia, elbow tendinitis, ‘cranky’ elbow, arthroscopic surgery, hypochondriasis of the knee, groin strain, calf strain, bursitis of the foot, concussions, ect. At one point Domonic Brown presented the possibility of revitalizing this group. It is suspected that he is being kept in the basement of an angry Philadelphia phan or member of the Philadelphia media who wanted him to have ten homeruns after 60 at-bats in the major leagues.

Dan, a little bit of overkill on your part? It is nice to know that you will kick someone when there down instead of encouraging or helping him.

It’s Philadelphia, not St. Louis.
I don’t agree with it but for whatever reason people would rather hate than support sometimes.

At this point Mayberry > Brown. You just have to hope Brown bounces back because adversity effects people in different ways.

I think a platoon with JMJ in LF next year is exactly what the doctor ordered for D. Brown. He will do well with less pressure on him to produce and in time will show a future as a clean up or bottom of the order hitter.
