Site re-design

As I mentioned a few weeks ago, I’m going to begin to overhaul the site, and you will notice lots of visual changes. Step 1 was changing to a different theme. I think this theme will work better because its cleaner and more sleek. Loyal reader “Rob H” was kind enough to design a custom header for the site, and I think it really is a unique and cool design. I’m going to be making lots of tweaks over the next few weeks/months, so if something seems out of place, it probably is. It may take some getting used to, but I think the cleaner look will end up making the site much more accessible and readable. So, hang with me while I make these design changes, and I hope everyone ultimately likes the finished product.

Update —>; I may as well put this here. I figured out two things tonight. I can remove the text ads that appear under posts, but its costs $30 for a year. I can also tweak the font size and some other aspects of the site, but that costs $15. I think I may hold off on one or both of these for now unless a few generous soles want to make a donation to cover the costs. Both features will eventually make their way onto the site.

Update #2 –> The ads should now be gone. If someone can confirm this, someone who noticed them before under the “possibly related posts” that would be great. Thanks.

  1. Nice little shock! I do like the header a lot.

Good work PP and Rob. Maybe it’s my Mac but the sides of the screen almost look salmon as opposed to red, but no problems at all.

  2. I like it but there are some that will take the graphics the wrong way. Everyone is so uptight now.

  3. The print on the right column could be a little darker for us old folks. I really like the arrangement. A lot of information a mouse step away.

  4. I tried to make the font a little bigger and couldn’t figure it out. If I can figure it out, I will try and make it bigger. For now, I just recommend making the font larger in your browser. Holding the CTRL key plus scrolling up with your mouse wheel should do the trick

  5. There is no religious agenda here.

Its a lighthearted banner that replaces the stale, plain text.

If you’re so offended that you can’t bring yourself to come to the site anymore because of the banner at the top, then I’m sorry to see you go.

Any further comments on this will be deleted, this isn’t the forum for those discussions.

  6. The words in the banner are hard to see. Maybe because my computer like me is old.
Wouldn’t be better for “home etc” to start of white and go dark when you mouse them.

  7. Drastic, but I really like it. New header is great.

Quick thought: it’s our 5 year anniversary over at TGP, and we managed to dig up an old snapshot of the blog in its early days. You have anything like that saved here? Would be great to see the improvements since then.

  8. Nice change.

Anyone too uptight to understand the evolution of a ballplayer can exit now. I am sure there is a website for you that talks about changing “Men at Work” signs to “People at Work”.

  9. Love the new look! No need to apologize for the header, it would be quite sad if people took offense to such a creative take on the evolution of man.

  10. Yea! Inky, I’m with you.
Phuturephillies I don’t know how you do it without advertising but I admire your efforts.
You supply a service to us offshore fans that can’t be found anywhere else.

  12. Like the new site look … one recommendation. I used to click on the Phuture Phillies logo at the top to do a refresh (in both the main site and especially the mobile), but that doesn’t work anymore. Can you make that work again?

Thanks for all you do for us!

  13. Tom…I used to do the same thing. Just click on ‘Home’ and it will have the same result.

  14. Why don’t you sell adds and make a few dollars? No one would begrudge you making some money and it takes no effort on your part

  15. I love the logo, are they each wearing a cap representing a different level in the organisation?

Williamsport, Lakewood, Cleawater, Reading, LHV, Philadelphia?

As a religious, I wouldn’t mind if you sold a few ads to generate profit. In the mean time, I would change the font size and the bright red bars on the side are a little… bright. Anyway, this site is great, I read everyday and enjoy the content.

  17. Love the new site – if it weren’t for the issue of the logos on the hats I think the new header would make a great t-shirt to generate a little revenue for the site. I would buy one and it would probably help you cover the hosting/domain/ad-removing fees.

  18. The text in the header has been converted from gray to white, and the font size on the right side of the screen has been increased.

Are these changes better? Does it make it easier to read the page?
