The Phillies today announced that reliever Ryan Madson has been activated after missing much of the seasons first half after kicking a chair and breaking his toe. LHP Mike Zagurski was optioned back to Lehigh Valley after making 5 appearances for the big club and going 0-0 with a 3.38 ERA in his 5.1 innings of work. Zagurski struck out an impressive 8 hitters in his time with the Phils. Lehigh Valley will have multiple decisions to make in regards to their pitching staff with JA Happ joining the team to start tomorrow and Zagurski returning most likely by the end of the weekend.

Bad move by the parent club sending Bronco down. He provided a good lefty balance in the pen and has a live fastball. They instead should have sent the less effective Herndon back in the Rule 5. Let’s hope JA puts a few good starts together to force a Phils rotation move.

I figured a 40-man change would be needed. Unfortunate about Berry, I was again hoping for a Bourn type player. I think finding a speed and defense guy to shuttle up for September is important though.

Let Herndon go? Ninja Please!

I am hopeful the short stints in the majors will help the bullpen become younger and effective:
Mathieson (late inning type)
Zagurski (strikeout lefty)
Herndon (groundball low leverage guy)
Bastardo (continuously hurt)
Schwimmer (mid-2011 callup)

Best high minors relief corp in my memory since mid-’70s with Brustar, etc. Especially if Rosenberg recovers. Add in a few of the current starters at AA/AAA, like Flande and Worley.

How good is this yankees prospect Montero?????

Montero is good, but ppl are saying that he won’t be able to stay at catcher for long. His future position is 1B/DH.
