5/08/09– After an eight plus hour bus trip into the early hours of the morning, the ‘Pigs jumped out early on Toledo with a RBI single by Mike Cervenak in the first and a two run double in the second by Jason Ellison to take an early 3-0 lead over the Mudhens. That is when the homerun ball came back to haunt Drew Carpenter once again, who, after leaving in the sixth had given up two more homers, accounting for a 4-3 Toledo lead. Carpenters’ line was 6IP 3H 4ER 4BB 6K. Toledo took that lead into the ninth when the ‘Pigs scored two on an RBI double by Rich Thompson and a bases loaded walk by Andy Tracy gave the ‘Pigs the 5-4 win. Mike Koplove threw two strong innings to get the win, with Pablo Ozuna, Rich Thompson and Jason Ellison contributing multi hit games.
5/09/09–Toledo scored early and often against the ‘Pigs as Lehigh Valley failed in their latest attempt to reach .500, this time 11-7. Rodrigo Lopez(1-2) got the start, and was ineffective at best, going 4 innings and giving up 7 runs (5 earned), on 9 hits. Lehigh Valley was down 7-0 when he left the game. The ‘Pigs made an effort to make the game respectable, beind Rich THompson (2-5, 2R, 2RBI), Jason Donald (2-5, 2RBI, SB), Mike Cervenak (2-4, R) and John Mayberry (2 RBI), but fell well short.
5/10/09–A good weekend for Lehigh Valley as they took two out of three from Toledo, with Justin Lehr picking up his league leading win number five in the 5-3 ‘Pigs victory. Lehr went 6.1 innings, pitching out of jams and giving up a lone run, on nine hits. Lehigh Valley jumped out early on a two run double by Andy Tracy, and added two more in the sixth to take a 4-1 lead. Mike Koplove came in to earn his second save of the season. Offensively, Jason Donald was 3-5 with two doubles, Mike Cervenak knocked his 3rd homer of the year and both John Mayberry and Jason Ellison added two hits for Lehigh Valley.
Notes: P Jason Anderson was once again recalled to take the spot of the injured Tyler Walker in the ‘Pigs bullpen.
Both Manager Dave Huppert and LF Jason Ellison were ejected from Saturdays’ game over a disputed foul call on a potential three run homer by Ellison. Television replays seemed to confirm the ball was foul.
Mike Cervenak has now reached base in a franchise record 22 consecutive games.
Gary Majewski struggled yet again on Sunday, and it seems with Tyler Walker on the DL, Mike Koplove becomes the leading callup candidate for the Phils if needed.
The .500 watch continues tomorrow. If the ‘Pigs win in Toledo, they will sport a .500 record for the first time in their history (well, not counting Opening Days).

Given some of Koplove’s later AAA stats including the infamous
PCL, he should rate at least a chance The Phils page defense of Tashner was incredible. Left or right hander if you cant pitch
you gotta go. Koplove and/or Z deserve at least a cup of coffee. Z is on the 40 and Joe Bisenius needs come off the 40.
I cant remember the last Philly raised guy on the roster.

Jason Donald’s showing a little spark lately. I hope that continues. Carpenter walked a guy before each HR he gave up and he doubled his problem. Walks will kill you especially if you don’t have a 95 mph heater to fall back on.

You know, there are a lot of guys in the phillies farm system who we talk about a lot, Knapp, Worely, Stutes, Savery, Drabek, ect…but I dont know if it would be a bad idea to get Lehr a few starts in with the big club. Our starters are just not getting the job done, and Lehr is a veteran with MLB experience. He was once a nice prospect, and I think he may have been a Rule 5 guy one year, but perhaps that stopped his progress as a prospect and he is only now starting to peak. Five wins is five wins, and hes looked good almost every time out. I say u give the guy a shot.
and for the love of god, Taschner needs to be in AAA…call up Koplove, Zagurski, whoever, just get rid of this chump

Donald clearly heard our 58 2B challenge and has responded with 4 in his last 5 games. 12 down, 46 to go! kidding…
Thanks for the report, gregg.

When I read the story about Lehr, I can’t figure out why he hasn’t earned another shot in the big leagues because he’s been nothing short of terrific in 3 years in AAA. I would actually give Happ Park’s next start (after tomorrow) and call up Koplove for Taschner today but Lehr would be next in line. I would also call up Cervanek, a professional hitter, and release Cairo who is useless. They have options which is great but the big club needs to do something to get guys focusing and a few small moves would do just that. Its also great to see Donald hitting the ball again. How about that Dom Brown!!

I think in the modern game small moves are underrated and important. So many pitcher changes. Mayberry or somebody
Cairo might as well be in Cairo the way things are. Every one
knows who i want to go. HINT he is below the Mendoza line
for almost a year now
