  1. SS Nerio Rios / 16 yrs. / 5-11, 152 lbs.
    OF Bernardo Solarte / 16 yrs. / 5-10, 154 lbs.

Andy (or anyone else): know anything about these two? I did a quick google search, and it yielded nothing. Might these be a couple of Latin American signings from this year that flew beneath the radar?

  2. Ahhh, so he came down with mono or he would have been headed to Williamsport from what it sounds like. Honestly, that makes me feel a lot better about him going forward — the Phillies think pretty highly of him, but he was just a no go for the Cutters in June.

I’m still interested to find out whether the Phils really did take away his splitter, as was mentioned in an article on Kyle posted here last year. “I get a lot of grounders,” he said, but his GB% was only 30.2% this year — which would lead me to believe that he’s not throwing the split.

  4. Rios played on the Venezuelan 13-14 year old team a couple of years ago in a U.S. tournament. He hit at least 2 HR in that tourney, so maybe he has a little more power in his 150-pound frame than Freddy Galvis. Couldn’t find anything on Solarte.

  6. Good spot, Rickey. I consider myself as being firmly on the Collier bandwagon, so it’s great to read that he’s improving.

I’m interested to see how the new swing mechanics will work out. Alex Eisenberg of THT really liked Collier’s swing, but interestingly enough, he suggested that Collier could lower his hands — which is part of what the Phils have done. I just hope that in trying to add power, the Phils haven’t created any holes in his swing.
