I’ve been meaning to post this, but keep forgetting. If you’re curious about the results of the minor league spring training games, you can see them on the Reading Phillies website, by clicking here. These games are almost completely meaningless, basically just for guys to get their work in. Its still nice to see a good outing from Joe Savery (1 ER in 5 IP) and Travis d’Arnaud chipping in with 2 doubles.

Phuture Phillies 
Look at it this way to have some fun. The experts like Keith Law, according to his 08 rankings, lists the Phils (27) as having one of the lowest rated farm systems in baseball. For the three teams the Phils farm hands are playing in camp this spring his rankings are: Tampa Bay (1), Yanks (5), Toronto (23). But so far the four Phillies teams are a combined 15-9-4 against them. Granted it does not mean anything but for bragging rights but the Phuture Phillies are at least more than competitive after the first week of games against these higher ranked farm systems this spring.

In addition to the play of Jason Donald, the second most pleasant surprise in the 08 ST camps has been the play of Greg Golson. For example against the Yankee AA farmhands over the last two days for Reading Golson has gone 6 for 9 with a double, triple, and homer, scoring 3 runs and knocking in 4 more. Plus it is hard to believe that they both have hit .429 in the Grapefruit games so far. Golson has gone 6 for 14 with a double, a homer and 4 rbi and Donald has gone 3 for 7 with a double, two homers and 6 rbi. To start the season it looks like the Reading Phils will be worth the price of admission to watch.
