Greg Golson is on FIRE.
I really hope Happ can turn it around. I am pulling for him.
Also Jason Stark was on 610 this morning and was takling about some of our young guys. Though Cole Hamels was the real deal and has every chance to be as good as Carlton. WoW! He noted Golson’s recent hitting and playing and than stated his strike out rates the previous couple of years.
Anyone watch the game on Saturday? I can’t really get too much in to these Florida games. Still its nice to see baseball again.
Also anyone see the homer Howard hit? My god!

Golson’s catch yesterday was amazing. ESPN #4 Play of the Day. Seeing that made me really excited to see him continue to develop. Frankly it gave me a whole new outlook on him as a player. The homerun was a bit lucky (wind), but I’ll take it. He’s looking good!

Just what Golson needed I think, a good performance early in the year like this could spark something… If he continues to develop his plate approach, I think the rest of the tools are there… He looks pretty intimidating in the batters box, which doesnt count for much, but his stance and swing show some promising power…..

i think that CC and golson are maturing. CC looked very good. poised even during the 3rd inning when he was probably getting tired and they had some runners on base. struck out the last two hitters. Golson also has looked very athletic and seems to be staying within himself. i am more impressed with a single following a homer instead of the other way around. the homer didn’t go to his head. let’s see how the year plays out. 2 spring games does not a career make, but it is incouraging. jamarillo on the other hand looks in over his head.

A couple of comments. First, I’m not sure how many (if any) Yankees regulars were still in the lineup when Carrasco took his turn yesterday, but it sounds like he had a nice outing for himself. I just hope — and I’m repeating myself here — the Phils don’t take this as a sign that he’s ready for the big time, because he needs time in Reading to develop.
Second, Golson’s catch (which was incredible) got me thinking a bit more positively about him. I have serious doubts as to whether he’ll ever develop the plate discipline to be an effective regular, but it looks more and more likely that his floor is that of a fourth outfielder. Now certainly, that’s not what you’re expecting when you draft someone in the first round, but after the way he started the 2006 season in Lakewood, it’s comforting to know that his globe and baserunning abilities will likely get him on a major league roster… and there’s always the faint hope that he’ll hit enough to make up for his horrible plate discipline.

Friar, in Carrasco’s last inning he struck out Molina and Betemit. Not exactly the household-name Yankees, but two legit major league hitters.
Meanwhile, Savery is off to a nice start this afternoon–scoreless through 1 2/3.

Does anyone know where I can go to find the results of “B” games? Thanks.

I posted my thoughts on yesterday’s game with the Yankees on the previous section. Carrasco was pitching to some starters when he was in there. I know he faced Giambi and Posada. Giambi took Hamels deep. Maybe he was still ticked off by his $500K salary.
Ron Chiavacci looked good but the only real player he faced was Wilson Betemit. Holdzcom was throwing strikes. Andy Tracy was horrible in the field. Valentino Pascucci stood and watched strikes passing him by. Is he singing in the opera tonight?
The fielders must love Carrasco. He got the ball and threw it. He wasted no time on the mound. I don’t know if that’s the way he always pitches or he was nervous.

In this mornings “B” game Phils won 1-0 in a 7 inning affair behind Cervanek’s solo HR. Moyer started and went 4 shutout innings followed by Blackley’s 3 shutout innings. As far as the prospects go Golson was 1 for 2 with a single and Harmon and Donald went hitless.
