Player pages

A new idea I had for the site. If you look to the left, you’ll see a “Profile” link under Carlos Carrasco’s name. If you click that link, it will take you to a post with links and information on the player. I added a few articles I was able to find, a picture, and then I made a little career register, highlighting key peripherals. The plan is to eventually add things like video clips, more pictures, and rankings for each player, both from me and from other major prospect evaluation sites. If you have anything to contribute to a player’s profile, just leave it in the comments on each player’s page. For now, Carrasco is the only one I’ve worked on, but I plan to work on them slowly and surely over the next few months. Feedback on this idea is much appreciated.

  1. It looks great, and it should really cement this site as the first place anyone should look for info on Phillies prospects.

One suggestion, and I’d like to see if anyone agrees with me: maybe a short, few sentence write-up (above the images) that gives a Cliff’s Notes version of the prospect grades? Just quick stuff like repetoire (for pitchers) or tools (for hitters), projected ceiling, areas to improve, ETA, etc. For example, maybe Carrasco’s would be something brief like this:

“Top arm in the system. Possesses a fastball with good movement that sits between 91-94 mph along with the best changeup in the system. Curveball needs work. Profiles as a front-end starter if he continues to improve. ETA: Spring 2009.”

Obviously, everyone who visits here pretty much knows that with regards to Carrasco, but it would be a great quick reference for some of the lesser prospects in the system. Just a thought.

  2. I think the feature is great and I agree with PhillyFriar. I’m not as informed as many of you appear to be about the Phillies minor leaguers and sometimes when I’m looking for information on someone, I find it a little difficult to find. A single page with all the information on that player would be extremely helpful as well as a thumbnail sketch as PhillyFriar explains. Maybe you could include links to things you’ve written about that player?

  3. Another quick idea might be to have an overall prospect ranking, possibly even from a few different sources (BA, James’ ranking, and our rankings)

  4. Great idea! I love following our prosepects, but sometimes I just lose track of them and this will really help to follow their progression through our system.

  5. It looks great. Other than maybe an ETA, I don’t think I’d add too much more or you risk overloading the page. The crucial info is there in a concise way, and anyone who wants to go more in-depth can click on the name to find the relevant articles, prospect grades, etc. Nice idea with this addition.
