Before we get to #24, I wanted to address the Phillies hiring Chuck LaMar. I’m going to devote a separate writeup on this a little bit later, so check back for that. First reaction? Not good. Heitor Correa took the #23 spot on this list in fairly convincing fashion, and we move on to #24 today.

And here’s a reminder for the eligibilty
For the purpose of this poll, consider “eligibility” to be less than 50 AB/25 games for a position player, and less than 25 IP/20 games as a pitcher.
So, here is where a few other guys stand
Mathieson: 37 IP. Not eligible
Zagurski: 25 G. Not eligible
Scott Mitchinson

Matt Spencer. Here is where the list gets tougher. Spencer is actually a tools player with power potential and a 94 mph fastball left handed arm. OPS close to 800 last year. Not quite as good as Mach but his tools play better at higher levels. Others under consideration are Miguel Matos (underrated 19-year-old GCL season), Mattair (tools but probably major holes in his swing), Sampson, Mitchinson (still had good peripherals last year but needs to succeed in Clearwater this year), and Overholt (bad fall and 2nd half but might have been top 20 at the beginning of the year).

Byrd took a step forward this season and really started to improve- I gotta go with him doing this as a 21 year old over Mattair who i’m not convinced isn’t going to be another Golson hitting project.

Dan Brauer—if he can recover from physical setbacks

I’ll buck the trend and go to Dan Brauer.
Here’s hoping that his injury heals over the offseason… and that his struggles this year can be attributed to those injury problems. If he can fully recover, he showed in short season ball last year that he has good enough stuff to be considered a decent prospect.
