As I suspected, Kyle Drabek won in convincing fashion yesterday, and today we round out the top 10. What I find interesting, and maybe it’s just me, is that our Top 10 already seems deeper than it did last year. Still lots of quality guys remaining, this vote should be interesting.
01. Carrasco
02. Cardenas
03. Savery
04. Costanzo
05. Outman
06. Carpenter
07. Marson
08. Donald
09. Drabek
Place your vote for number10
And here’s a reminder for the eligibilty
For the purpose of this poll, consider “eligibility” to be less than 50 AB/25 games for a position player, and less than 25 IP/20 games as a pitcher.
So, here is where a few other guys stand
Mathieson: 37 IP. Not eligible
Zagurski: 25 G. Not eligible
Hmmmm….Happ or Harman?

I think it is fair for Happ to be here. He still has potential and let us not forget he had a rough year in AAA. It’s not like he’s in A ball and might not be able to get to the big leagues. He’s on the cusp right now. I think its fair for him to end up here at #10. Just my thoughts though.

I agree this seems about right for Happ. I would think Happ has at least a 50% chance of spending significant time in Philly next season.

Hasn’t Happ been scratched from the AFL because of a sore elbow? So it’s either #10 or TJ time.

Forgot about Golson. He should do here, edging out Edgar Garcia. Happ’s ceiling is too low and there are health questions now.

Its either Edgar Garcia or Dominick Brown for me who both have very high ceilings. Ill Go with DOMINICK BROWN.

Brauer and happ have arm problems otherwise they would be up there… Garcia also has his own arm issues… I see a pattern here…
Harmen would edge out Golson.. at least they finished stronger and are healthy. Slayden will start to get some votes shortly as well…
But I still think Jason Jarimillo should be the pick… the guy has been consistent and injury free… he will be the back up next spring. At least he will be in the majors, you can not say that for the rest with any conviction…

Damn. It seems like we have forgotten about Jaramillo – He had a very solid year at AAA, and I’m surprised he didn’t get a Sept call up. I was about to debate between Happ and Harman, but I’m going with Jaramillo.
The Phils seem pretty solid at catcher though. Ruiz had a nice year, Jaramillo is poised to be the backup or could platoon with Chooch. By all accounts, Marson is a stud (and probably will be MLB ready in 2009), and even though D’Arnaud struggled, he is still a highly touted catcher. What does all of this mean? The Phils will probably re-sign Barajas to a three year deal. Ugh.

Jeff O, I had Jaramillo 11th on my list, right after Happ. So I’m going with the pride and joy of Evanston, Illinois for #10.
Happ and Jaramillo are, of course, probably the two of the top ten or so most ready to contribute to the Phillies next year. They also seem to have the lowest upsides, hence their spots down at the bottom here.
I hope Happ rebounds next year and provides the big league club with a starting option later in the season should someone get injured.

I’m tempted by the likes of Golson and Bastardo but Happ’s likelihood for promotion and keeping it makes me vote Happ.

Greg Golson. He opens tonight in the desert with Cameron Maybin. What an outfield. Wonder how many K’ s and errors Costanzo will rack up?

I’m going to go with Freddy Galvis. Extremely young for his league, great D, at least above Mendoza line with the bat. I think Galvis/Garcia/Brown/Myers are the highest ceiling guys left. So, Galvis.

Happ. Look at his numbers prior to this year. They are impressive even if his ceiling may be low.

Tough call between Harmon and Happ, but I’ll go with Happ only because he’s closer and a left handed pitcher.

Naylor has better stuff than Happ.
Happ will contribute but at how high a level? Though he took his lumps this season, Happ will rate in 08 and shine in 09.
Jaramillo has a good stroke and eventually could be an all-star. With Ruiz, Jaramillo, Marson and D’arnaud, the Fightin’s are stocked at backstop for years to come. They could be the chips the Phillies need to acquire two top-flight starters and a pair of nasty arms in the pen. Ruiz is a starter, no question about it. Jaramillo and Coste should back him up in 08. Adios, Barajas.
Harman took his game to another level when it counted most; he’s earned his rise up the charts.
Quintin Berry rates higher than Golson, who has a miserable K / BB ratio. How many bad PA are worth the occasional XBH? We need baserunners (Berry), not whiffers (Golson).
Costanzo, by the way, also Ks too frequently and doesn’t appear to have a ML glove yet.
Javon Moran, anyone? Speed kills. Davey Lopes sees to that. What a tremendous job he’s done, no doubt. Moran could play a role next season. He’s eligible. At 25, he’s still young enough to put it all together and have an MLB career.

Greg Jacobs. A late bloomer, ready to take the Phils to the next level.
(okay, so I’m not overly serious, but, heck, he did have a good year; and its nice to reward production 😉

Dom Brown–OF–as one of the most potentially exciting player in our system. Happ has too many issues with his command without which he will NEVER be a significant ML pitcher.
I’d LOVE to see him gain that command, but I need to have him show us, so I could place him this high….but until he does…….To have come to this minor lg level and hit a wall is very disturbing.
I wish him instant command success…but gotta see it.

Just a comment on some of the thoughts here. This is a prospect list and tools do count. Age also counts relative to performance. To the poster that talked about Quintin Berry in comparison to Greg Golson, Berry is one year OLDER than Golson and two levels behind. That is huge. Berry had a nice year but did not do it at a level where he could show he is a real prospect. I will be the first to say Golson is a disappointment. The BB/K ratio is horrendous and the power is only there periodically. But as this is a prospect list, tools do count. Golson has them. Players with tools often do better as they move up the ladder of the farm system. A prospect list is a combination of tools, performance, and age. That is why Golson ranks ahead of some others like Berry, Moran, and even Harman (though that is a much closer comparison).

So far so good in the AFL. Golson was the hero in the Saguaros’s 4-3 opening night win in the desert with a sac. fly, an RBI double and scored the winning run. Partially good news on Costanzo in that he did not commit an error in the game but did go 0 for 4 but with only two K’s.
