For White Sox 2B Tad Iguchi. No complaints here. Dubee is a C+ prospect at this point, and isn’t close to being a big league contributor, and hopefully this keeps Nunez out of the every day lineup.
For White Sox fans who might find this blog via Google, here’s the report I wrote on Dubee this winter.
I rated Dubee a C at the time, and as I said, I’d probably rate him a C+ prospect at this point.
Iguchi’s contract has this clause, per Cots
contract includes clause requiring White Sox to sign Iguchi to an extension by sometime in 2007, or release him (effectively granting Iguchi free agency after three years of ML service)
So, I don’t really know if that will still apply. I can see him being resigned as a backup, but I don’t know if he’d be interested.
If he stays thru the end of the year, won’t we also get a draft pick or two?

Why did we give away another pitcher from our depleted minor league system for a 2nd basemen from the Whitesox hitting .257. Granted Dubee isn’t a class A prospect but they could have called up young Yonderman Rodriguez from their own system and plugged him in there for a month to see what his capabilities on the big stage would be.
The Braves aren’t having a problem using their minor leaguers, and looks like their giving away Salamontachi, a player they called up and used , and showed he had some talent with two minor league pitchers for Texiera of the Rangers.
The Phillies just don’t get it!

Ummmm, what? The Braves might trade Saltalamacchia. Dubee is a C+ prospect who is at least 3 years away from providing a service to a major league team, and his numbers aren’t outstanding this year. Yonderman Rodriguez plays for the VSL Phillies, he isn’t even in the US. The Phillies have no legit prospects above High A capable of filling in. This is a fine move.

He did happen to merge Simontacchi and Saltalamacchia, which was cool.

you guys are cracking me up. Agree it was a good move. Hopefully we can get some innings away from Helms. Is this the first Japanese player the Phils have had?

The Phillies will be getting Iguchi as he’s heating up, and he should be a pleasant addition, unless he’s too homesick. He speaks little English, and travels with an interpreter. He’s an underated fielder who makes the turn very well, and everything he can reach he gets. Very good at moving a runner along. Has a good baseball head. I’m a Chicagoan

I’m a Sox fan…I wish we could have gotten more for Iguchi, but that’s the season he’s having, oh well. He was supposed to bring more power than he did (ever). I think it was a “gimme” trade b/c we’ll be snagging Rowand back when he’s available. Rowand belongs in Chi-town…Rowand wants to be in Chi-town…and Rowand will be ours again! I’m still grieving the loss of our beloved center fielder, the original grinder.
Good riddance Tadahito! Hope they have good sushi in Philly!

NO DRAFT PICKS!!!
The reason we got him so cheap was that Iguchi has it written in his contract that if not resigned by ’07 he cannot receive arbitration and therefore NO compensation. But this trade isn’t bad. It’s not like losing Dubee is going to make or break our farm.

Sorry Rowand wants to stay in Philly.
Gillick needs to re-sign him .

Iguchi was one of the few bright spots in what has otherwise been a dark season for the White Sox. With solid defensive and clutch hitting, Iguchi is a great addition to the Phillies lineup. I don’t know what Kenny Williams was thinking; can we (the Sox) trade our General Manager?

Well, John, he did offload $10 million of deadweight and get back Gio Gonzalez in the deal. And he helped win you that title two years ago. If you’d like to swap Gillick for Kenny Williams, I’d make that deal and thank you for it.

The real question: I haven’t seen Iguchi play…can he play 3rd when Chase returns? I know he’s never done it, but is he capable?

He’s going to be a bench player when Utley returns, I doubt he plays third.

I read somewhere that he played short once (maybe in Japan) and had some success there, which usually translates to third base. It’s unfortunate he doesn’t speak very good english, because that language barrier is going to be tough for the players and fans to overcome and get past.

I don’t think it will be tough, to be honest. Most of what guys say in the press is nothing but cliches, and he now is renunited with his buddy Aaron Rowand, so that should make settling in a bit easier.

Iguchi played shortstop almost exclusively in 1997-2000 NPB. he seems like the classic no-hit shortstop: .222/.299/.409 in 1337 PA. his fielding percentage dropped off from .983 in 1998 to .968 in 1999, and then he had shoulder surgery in 2000. when he returned in 2001, he moved exclusively to second base (and started hitting).
I don’t know what his arm’s like, but my impression is he has the glove to play third if he had to. Dobbs is setting the bar pretty low, though.

Hi. I see that the Phillies signed 6-8 LHP Reliever Matt German out of my school Northern Illinois as a 5th year senior.
With the Low-A Williamsport Crosscutters, he’s only given up 2 R in 21.1 IP and 14 G. 0.84 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, 2.9 K/BB. 7 saves. When are they going to promote this guy?

I also read Uncle Charlie is fluent in Japanese, and although that fact completely baffles me, it might help with his transition.

Well, he did play in Japan for a number of years, and despite the perception, he is intelligent.

I like Uncle Charlie. He gets a bad rep in Philly for some “bone-headed” moves, but through and through the players love playing for him. He handles Philly well, I think (except for that Easkin thing).
One rumor I’ve heard is Anthony Reyes to the Phils straight-up for Bourn. One thing I’m concerned about is his fly-ball tendencies. Anyone care to break Reyes down?

Charlie Manuel needs to be taken care of by the organization. I don’t think it’s any mistake that we’re leading the league in runs scored under his leadership. Cleveland did the same thing when he was their hitting coach and developed a ton of great hitters. If Gillick decides to bring in a new manager after this year, he needs to give Manuel a cushy high paying job teaching Phillies minor leaguers how to hit.

Yeah, sorry ’bout Freddy. 🙂 OK, I’ll give him credit for that deal, and the ThomeRowand deal was good all-around, despite how much Sox fans mourn the loss of Rowand.
> And he helped win you that title two years ago.
Well, one could say the peanut vendors in the stands “helped” us win two years ago too. 🙂 Call me old fashioned, but personally, I give the credit for the title to the coaches and players.
Anyway, this is a Phillies blog, so I won’t bemoan the Sox GM further. Although I will ask, how’d you like the 2 former Chitown southsiders stickin’ it to the northsiders today? 🙂
